The Lexus NX and Mercedes-Benz GLC compete in the same compact luxury crossover segment, but they bring different approaches. As luxury models, both aim to deliver comfort, technology, and everyday practicality, along with the premium-brand feel buyers expect in this class. For those seeking a small luxury SUV packed with features, they are clear contenders. This thorough comparison will highlight the differences behind their apparent similarities.
The Lexus NX emphasizes calm refinement. It has a compact footprint, provides a smooth ride, and features a cabin that clearly shows craftsmanship. One of its main strengths is variety. Buyers can choose from turbocharged, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) drivetrains, each designed for easy daily driving. While the NX is enjoyable to drive, even its most powerful version favors balance rather than aggression.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC offers variety, with a clear performance focus. The lineup begins with an affordable mild-hybrid turbo model, extends into PHEVs with substantial electric range, and tops out with a couple of specialized versions that can rival some high-performance sedans. On the inside and outside, the GLC's design features classic Mercedes cues, with a cabin heavily inspired by the brand's more expensive models. Its advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and infotainment technology are among the most sophisticated in the industry.
Overall, both SUVs offer luxury and options, but they do so differently. This full comparison will help shoppers decide which one aligns best with their priorities.

2026 Lexus NX 350
For 2026, the Lexus NX lineup features four trim levels: Base, Premium, Luxury, and F Sport Handling. Each one is offered with three powertrain options. Buyers can choose the turbocharged NX 350, the fuel efficient NX 350h hybrid, or the plug-in NX 450h+. The entry-level model is the front-wheel-drive (FWD) NX 350h, starting at $46,470, while the least expensive non-hybrid version, the NX 350 with all-wheel drive (AWD), begins at $47,120. At the top of the lineup is the NX 450h+ F Sport Handling AWD, with a starting price of $64,425. All prices include the $1,295 destination charge.
Lexus enhances the deal for 2026 NX buyers with four years of unlimited mileage roadside assistance, plus complimentary LexusCare coverage for the first two scheduled maintenance visits. A trial of Lexus Drive Connect provides access to remote vehicle functions, emergency support, cloud-based navigation, and service alerts. Owners also receive a 30-day/3-gigabyte trial of Lexus Wi-Fi Connect to activate an in-vehicle hotspot.
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC offers buyers three main sub-models—300, 300 4Matic, and 350e 4Matic—and two high-performance variants—AMG GLC 43 and AMG GLC 63 S E Performance. All but the base GLC 300 come with AWD. The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) turbocharged four-cylinder 300 trim is the least expensive of the five models, starting at $50,900. The high-performance plug-in hybrid AMG GLC 63 S E Performance model starts at $88,100. All prices include the $1,350 destination charge.
Mercedes-Benz offers GLC buyers four years or 50,000 miles of roadside assistance coverage, but it does not include free scheduled maintenance. The compact luxury SUV comes with a complimentary Mercedes Me Connect package for one year, which includes a mobile hotspot, remote vehicle monitoring, real-time navigation, remote locking and starting, and emergency assistance.
Advantage: Neither
Why? The Lexus NX costs less, but it is smaller than the GLC.

2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e 4Matic SUV
The Lexus NX does not rank among the top three models in the Compact Premium SUV segment in the JD Power 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), which assesses owner reported problems after three years of ownership.
The NX ranks second in its segment in the JD Power 2025 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS), which tracks problems experienced by owners during the first 90 days.
The 2026 Lexus NX comes with a standard warranty of four years or 50,000 miles, and a powertrain warranty of six years or 70,000 miles.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC does not rank among the top three models in its segment in either the 2026 VDS or the 2025 IQS. It provides a four-year/50,000-mile basic and powertrain warranty.
Advantage: Lexus NX
Why? The NX ranks second in its segment for initial quality and offers a longer powertrain warranty.

2026 Lexus NX 350
For 2026, the Lexus NX maintains its three-tiered powertrain lineup. The NX 350 trims feature a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. The NX 350h, available with FWD or AWD, combines a gasoline engine with electric motor assist for a total of 240 hp. At the top, the NX 450h+ models utilize a plug-in hybrid system delivering 304 hp and 169 pound-feet of torque, along with an EPA-estimated 37 miles of electric-only range.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the FWD NX 350h (hybrid) at 40 mpg combined, with the AWD version expected to achieve 39 mpg. The AWD-only NX 350 is rated at 24 mpg combined. As of now, the 2026 NX 450h+ has not yet received an official EPA fuel-economy rating, but Lexus estimates an 84 MPGe combined figure for the PHEV.
The two-row, five-passenger NX is nearly four inches shorter overall than the Mercedes-Benz GLC, which affects its cabin and cargo space. Behind the rear seats, the NX offers 22.7 cubic feet of cargo space, expanding to 46.9 cubic feet with the second row folded down. A power liftgate comes standard, and higher trims include a hands-free kick sensor.
Mercedes-Benz offers the 2026 GLC with multiple versions of the same basic engine, each linked to a specific trim level. The base GLC 300 and the 300 4Matic feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with mild-hybrid technology that delivers 255 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque. The 350e 4Matic adds an electric motor and plug-in hybrid system for a total of 313 hp and 406 pound-feet of torque. The AMG GLC 43 enhances the 2.0-liter four-cylinder with hybrid support and an electric exhaust-gas turbocharger, producing 416 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque. If that is not enough, the plug-in hybrid AMG GLC 63 S E Performance delivers 671 hp and 752 pound-feet of torque.
According to the EPA, the RWD GLC 300 is estimated to get 27 mpg combined, while the AWD 4Matic drops to 26 mpg. The AMG GLC 43 has a combined rating of 22 mpg. As of this writing, the EPA has not rated the plug-in hybrids.
Longer and wider than the Lexus NX, the 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC offers more seating space for its five passengers than its Japanese competitor. It also provides more cargo room than the NX with the second-row seatback folded. It has 21.9 cubic feet of space in the rear cargo area and 59.3 cubic feet with the second row down. The GLC's luxurious cabin is similar to that of the C-Class sedan.
Advantage: Neither
Why? The GLC is larger, provides more cargo space, and offers more powerful high-performance versions, while the NX has higher base horsepower.

2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e 4Matic SUV
At this point, it is reasonable for any consumer to expect a brand new vehicle to include the following safety features:
So, how do the NX and GLC stack up? Let's take a look.
The 2026 Lexus NX features a comprehensive ADAS suite. Although blind spot and rear cross-traffic warnings are surprisingly excluded from that package, both are standard across the board. Along with collision avoidance and lane keeping functions, the NX adds navigation-linked adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane centering assistance, and automatic emergency steering and braking. Available upgrades include a surround view camera, front cross-traffic warning, lane change assist, and active parking assistance.
As of this writing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not published an overall safety rating for the 2026 Lexus NX. Meanwhile, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named the 2026 NX a Top Safety Pick+ for the 2025 calendar year, its highest honor. As of now, the Institute has not carried that distinction forward for 2026.
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC features several advanced ADAS, but many are not included as standard equipment. For example, ACC with stop-and-go capability and active lane keeping assistance are optional. Active blind spot warning, lane change assist, automatic lane change, and traffic-sign recognition are also available as options. GLCs with a trailer hitch include trailer stability assist. A head-up display and a surround view camera system are available in optional packages.
As of now, the NHTSA has not released safety ratings for the 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC. At the same time, the IIHS named the 2026 GLC a Top Safety Pick+ for the 2025 calendar year. As of now, the Institute has not carried that rating forward for 2026.
Advantage: Neither
Why? Both SUVs earn Top Safety Pick+ status from the IIHS. The NX offers a more comprehensive list of standard ADAS, while the GLC features some very innovative optional driver assistance options.

2026 Lexus NX 350 F Sport
The 2026 NX features the in-house-developed Lexus Interface infotainment system. Most trims come with a 9.8-inch touchscreen, while a 14-inch display is available as an upgrade. In the 450h+ PHEV, the 14-inch screen is standard. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring are included across all trims, along with Bluetooth connectivity and a three-month SiriusXM Platinum satellite radio trial. Higher-end NX trims offer a 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system.
Lexus offers 2026 NX buyers a comprehensive lineup of connected services with free trial periods lasting up to five years. Remote Connect features remote engine start and door-lock control. Wi-Fi Connect transforms the cabin into a hotspot for up to five devices, while Safety Connect provides 24/7 emergency assistance. Service Connect monitors vehicle health and maintenance needs.
The NX’s cloud-based navigation is comparable to systems in competing models, but the SUV’s Destination Assist connects drivers with real people who can send directions directly to the vehicle. Personalized user profiles allow owners to manage preferences for navigation, audio, and language, while the built-in Intelligent Assistant responds to natural voice commands for climate control, routing, and infotainment.
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC features the latest version of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system with an 11.9-inch touchscreen, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD Radio, and Bluetooth. It includes natural language voice control, activated by the “Hey, Mercedes” command, and biometric authentication. Optional upgrades include MB Navigation with augmented reality videos, speed adaptation, and live traffic data.
Purchasers of the 2026 GLC receive a year of free Mercedes Me Connect services, granting access to a variety of connected features. The package includes a built-in mobile hotspot, remote locking, unlocking, and engine start, real-time navigation updates, and vehicle status monitoring. Emergency assistance, such as automatic SOS calls, is also part of the package.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC features a state-of-the-art V2X communication system that allows the vehicle to share and receive real-time hazard information from similarly equipped cars. When the GLC detects potentially dangerous conditions such as wheelspin, activated hazard lights, or heavy windshield wiper use, it can send this data to a central network, which can then alert other drivers via on-screen messages or audible warnings.
Advantage: Mercedes-Benz GLC
Why? The innovative V2X system provides the GLC with a slight advantage in this area, but the NX offers longer connected services trials.

2026 Mercedes-Benz GLC 350e 4Matic SUV
The 2026 Lexus NX is one of the brand’s most important models, offering a balance of refinement, comfort, and advanced technology in a tidy but luxurious package. Its cabin is well-crafted, the ride quality is composed, and its features are competitive. Interior and cargo space are somewhat smaller than those of some European rivals, but the NX still provides a comfortable, premium feel suitable for daily commuting and longer trips.
For mainstream luxury buyers, powertrain options remain one of the NX’s biggest strengths. Shoppers can choose from turbocharged, hybrid, and PHEV models, giving the SUV broader appeal than many competitors. The base model is FWD, while all other versions come exclusively with AWD. The 304-hp plug-in hybrid offers a mix of performance and efficiency, though it falls short of the athleticism of the AMG GLC 43 and AMG GLC 63 S E Performance.
Recognizing the compact crossover utility segment is one of the most important in the luxury market, Mercedes-Benz offers potential buyers a wide variety of GLC trims from which to choose. The entry-level GLC 300 combines a turbocharged, mild hybrid-enhanced powertrain with RWD and a base price under $50K. The lineup also includes not just one but two PHEV choices, and the 350e 4Matic can travel more than 50 miles on electric power alone. At the top, drivers have a 671-hp rocket ship to play with.
While the GLC’s exterior is not the most striking in the segment, it properly showcases the Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star and pays tribute to its more expensive M-B siblings. Inside, the GLC draws features from both the C-Class sedan and the larger crossover SUVs. Few will find its infotainment system easy to use at first, but after a few days behind the wheel, most drivers will value its extensive range of features. Mercedes-Benz vehicles command a premium price, but the GLC goes a long way toward justifying its MSRP.
Advantage: Mercedes-Benz GLC
Why? To me, the GLC 300 is the best value among the two models, offering Mercedes-Benz prestige, a larger cabin, and RWD handling.
