What's New for the 2025 Subaru Models?

Jeff Youngs | Jan 09, 2025

An all-new Forester SUV highlights the changes for Subaru for 2025, bringing new styling, added standard safety equipment, and upgraded technology. There’s also a sporty new WRX tS variant that’s sure to catch the eye of compact sport sedan enthusiasts. The rest of Subaru’s lineup sees only minor changes for 2025, mostly related to trim level reshuffling and standard equipment enhancements. Sadly, Subaru has announced that it will discontinue Legacy sedan production following its 2025 model-year run.

Changes to the individual 2025 Subaru model lines are listed below alphabetically.

2025 Subaru Ascent Changes - Find the best Subaru Ascent deals!

Subaru’s largest model, the Ascent 3-row crossover SUV, gains two new trims for 2025: Bronze Edition and Onyx Edition Touring. In a corresponding move, the automaker discontinues the previous base trim, making the Premium the entry version and raising the Ascent’s base price to around $40,000, including the destination charge. Granted, the 2025 Ascent Premium now comes standard with the formerly optional Convenience package.

Now that the Premium trim is the starting point, the 2025 Ascent gains a handful of newly standard advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including automatic emergency steering, automatic emergency stop assistance, blind-spot warning with lane-changing assistance, rear cross-traffic warning, and reverse automatic braking.

2025 Subaru BRZ Changes - Find the best Subaru BRZ deals!

Subaru’s sporty, rear-wheel-drive BRZ coupe sees only a few minor changes for 2025. The Limited trim’s interior gets a makeover with updated black suede upholstery and additional cabin accents. Also, BRZs with the six-speed manual transmission gain a Sport drive mode.

Subaru has also announced the BRZ Series.Purple special edition for 2025, limited to 500 units and available exclusively with a manual transmission. The new Series.Purple features Galaxy Purple Pearl exterior paint, unique exterior and interior accents, satin silver 18-inch wheels, and performance upgrades.

2025 Subaru Crosstrek Changes - Find the best Subaru Crosstrek deals!

Subaru introduced an all-new, third-generation Crosstrek for the 2024 model year, including a new, off-road-oriented Wilderness trim. Hence, changes for 2025 are minimal. The Premium trim now has a more powerful 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and dual-function X-Mode with hill-descent control. Lastly, Subaru tweaks the exterior and interior color palette slightly.

2025 Subaru Forester Changes - Find the best Subaru Forester deals!

Subaru launches an all-new Forester for the 2025 model year, but it doesn’t stray drastically from the compact crossover SUV’s proven formula. It still has boxy, rugged styling, a four-cylinder boxer engine, standard all-wheel drive (AWD), and Subaru’s EyeSight ADAS package. Nevertheless, the SUV does have an updated look inside and out, along with new safety and driver-assistance technologies.

Available in six trim levels—Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, Touring, and, new for 2025, Wilderness—the sixth-generation Forester has a new grille and front fascia, while the interior features a revised, contoured dashboard and redesigned front seats. All 2025 Foresters get heated front seats, mirrors, and wipers, and all but the base trim get an 11.6-inch Starlink infotainment touchscreen. A hands-free, power-operated liftgate is also now available—a first for the Forester.

Power comes from a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque via a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). All but the base model feature a manual shift mode with steering wheel paddles. Active torque vectoring combines with the standard AWD system to further enhance handling.

All 2025 Foresters benefit from an upgraded EyeSight safety package, and it’s also the first Subaru model to offer automatic emergency stop assistance.

Regarding infotainment, Subaru equips the base model with its latest Starlink system, featuring dual 7-inch screens—one for infotainment and one for climate controls. Standard features include Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Most trims, however, get a single 11.6-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, and embedded climate controls.

2025 Subaru Impreza Changes - Find the best Subaru Impreza deals!

Subaru redesigned the Impreza for 2024, giving its four-door hatchback a new look, improved handling, and enhanced infotainment and ADAS technologies. For 2025, the Impreza sees no changes. The sixth-generation Impreza is still available in base, Sport, and RS trim levels, with one of two four-cylinder engines and a CVT. As with most other Subarus, AWD and EyeSight are standard.

2025 Subaru Legacy Changes - Find the best Subaru Legacy deals!

If you’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on purchasing a new Legacy, time is running out, as Subaru has announced it will discontinue its midsize sedan following the 2025 model year. As such, the 2025 Legacy has very few changes. The top Limited trim gets a power moonroof, a standard driver monitoring system, and a heated steering wheel. Pricing carries over unchanged from 2024.

2025 Subaru Outback Changes - Find the best Subaru Outback deals!

While the Outback crossover SUV—essentially a wagon version of the Legacy— gets the same updates as its sedan counterpart, it will not be on the chopping block after the 2025 model year. Like the Legacy, pricing for the 2025 Outback carries over unchanged from 2024. It is available in nine trim levels with one of two four-cylinder boxer engines. A CVT with eight-speed manual shift mode and steering wheel paddles is standard, as is AWD and EyeSight.

2025 Subaru WRX Changes - Find the best Subaru WRX deals!

The WRX gains a sporty new tS trim for 2025, effectively replacing the TR and bringing a host of performance upgrades to Subaru’s compact sedan. Highlights include black exterior components, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Recaro front seats, power driver’s seat, a performance-tuned engine, selectable drive modes, satin gray 19-inch alloy wheels with summer tires, Brembo brakes with gold calipers, and electronically adjustable suspension dampers.

Elsewhere, all 2025 WRX sedans get a standard driver monitoring system, while Premium and GT trims get revised seat bolsters, headrests, and red interior stitching.
