Just one year after Honda redesigned its Passport midsize SUV, the automaker is making changes to improve the more rugged TrailSport trim level’s off-road capability. Updates to the 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport include a reworked suspension, improved steering, subtle styling enhancements, and added standard equipment.
Starting with the exterior changes, the 2027 Passport TrailSport features a revised lower front fascia treatment, more substantial fender flares, and orange lighting nestled into the SUV’s hood scoop. Smoke Blue Pearl is a new 2027 paint color, replacing Obsidian Blue. The TrailSport also sits higher off the ground, courtesy of the new suspension modifications.
To improve the SUV’s off-roading capability, Honda engineers reworked the Passport TrailSport’s suspension, adding almost 1.4 inches of ground clearance for a new total of 9.65 inches. Honda claims that number exceeds models such as the Ford Bronco Sport Badlands with the Sasquatch package, Subaru Outback Wilderness, and Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road.
According to the automaker, 70 percent of the TrailSport’s major suspension components are redesigned, along with the SUV’s front subframe and driveshafts. While the engineers were at it, they also fine-tuned the steering feel and response for a better daily driving experience.
Additionally, the suspension lift increases the Passport TrailSport’s approach, breakover, and departure angles. They now measure 25 degrees, 25 degrees, and 23 degrees, respectively. Honda also promises added wheel articulation and an improved ride when traversing terrain.
Inside, the base TrailSport adds more standard equipment, including a heated steering wheel previously reserved for the TrailSport Elite. Additionally, every 2027 TrailSport has a TrailWatch camera system, another former TrailSport Elite exclusive. TrailWatch equips the Passport with front, side, rear, and surround-view cameras to help drivers assess trail conditions without exiting the SUV and checking themselves (though when in doubt, that is always a good idea).
As it was before, the 2027 Passport TrailSport is available with a Blackout package. It equips the SUV with 18-inch black wheels and black badges, plus new blacked-out front and rear fascias.
Introduced in summer 2026, the Honda Trail Experience (HTX) app remains available to TrailSport owners. Compatible with iPhones and available for download through the Apple App Store, the HTX app can record video and audio, add a data overlay, and share the result via social media.
The changes to the 2027 Passport TrailSport will undoubtedly make it more appealing to people looking for a roomy and utilitarian overlanding machine. It might also steer people considering a Jeep Grand Cherokee, Subaru Outback Wilderness, or Toyota 4Runner toward Honda when the 2027 TrailSport arrives at dealerships by October 1, 2026.
