2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE Preview

Mercedes-Benz is refreshing its aging GLE SUV lineup for the 2027 model year. The highlights include minor styling tweaks, updated powertrains, added standard equipment, and new technology. The midsize 2027 Mercedes GLE remains available in original and spicy Coupe recipes, now with standard 4Matic all-wheel drive (AWD), MBUX Superscreen technology, and a panoramic glass sunroof for every variant.

What You Need to Know About the New 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE

Mercedes is rolling out a new look for the 2027 GLE, including revised front styling, minor rear body changes, updated lighting, and new wheel designs. Mercedes last redesigned the GLE for the 2020 model year.

Here is the rundown of the available series and their powertrains, each featuring 4Matic AWD:

• GLE 350 4Matic: Turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with mild-hybrid technology, making 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque
• GLE 450 4Matic: Turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder with mild-hybrid technology, making 375 hp and 413 pound-feet
• GLE 500e 4Matic: Plug-in hybrid version of the GLE 450, with a combined system output of 429 hp and 502 pound-feet
• GLE 580 4Matic: Turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with mild-hybrid technology, making 530 hp and 553 pound-feet
• AMG GLE 53 Hybrid: Performance-tuned version of the GLE 500e making 577 hp and 553 pound-feet. Mercedes says it offers 43 miles of electric-only driving range.
• AMG GLE 63 S 4Matic+: Performance-tuned version of the GLE 580, generating 603 hp and 627 pound-feet

All 2027 GLE SUVs benefit from firmer suspension tuning than before. Mercedes is also introducing a new cloud-based Airmatic air suspension option with “intelligent damping control.” Based on known data, Airmatic can adjust the suspension damping before the GLE encounters a bump or dip.

A new E-Active Body Control system for the GLE 580 builds on Airmatic. It assesses the driving situation 1,000 times per second and adjusts the suspension at each wheel to stabilize the SUV and keep occupants traveling unfettered.

For the 2027 GLE, Mercedes is making its three-screen MBUX Superscreen (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) standard equipment. It puts three 12.3-inch displays under a single piece of glass that spans the entire dashboard. On the left is a digital driver display. In the middle, a touchscreen provides the driver with access to the infotainment system and vehicle settings. On the right is a touchscreen for the front passenger that includes infotainment access. An optional 18-inch augmented reality head-up display is available.

New MB.OS (Mercedes-Benz Operating System) software powers this technology. It learns owner preferences over time, enabling over-the-air updates and system customization with digital extras from the Mercedes-Benz Store, and incorporating AI from Microsoft, Google, and ChatGPT in the system’s MBUX Virtual Assistant. The SUV’s native navigation system now uses Google Maps, and MBUX supports live video conferencing via Microsoft Teams. (Is that a good thing?)

Every 2027 GLE has a standard panoramic glass sunroof and offers an optional third-row seat (not available for the GLE Coupe). Additional interior updates include a new ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL option that purifies the cabin air every 90 seconds, and an available new 15-speaker Burmester audio system featuring Dolby Atmos technology.

With the standard GLE, cargo space ranges from 33.3 cubic feet to 74.9 cubic feet, and the GLE can tow up to 7,700 pounds. Coupes carry between 31.6 and 64.1 cubic feet of cargo and tow the same weight.

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE Competitors

In its midsize luxury SUV segment, the GLE faces stiff new competition from a redesigned 2027 Audi Q7 and an all-new 2027 BMW X5. Volvo is also competitive with the GLE, introducing a new plug-in hybrid version of the XC90 with an estimated 73 miles of all-electric range.

Mercedes is getting the jump on its new rivals. As of late September 2026, the 2027 GLE is on sale. Prices start at $69,850, including the $1,450 destination charge, and rise from there. At publication, Mercedes had not priced the AMG GLE 63 S 4Matic+ variant, but it will certainly cost more than the AMG GLE 53 Hybrid, which starts at $99,450 with the Coupe body style.
