Nissan is about to introduce an innovative new SUV. The 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid has a gasoline engine, but it does not power the wheels. Instead, electric motors at each axle provide propulsion, while the gas engine serves as a generator that creates the electricity that feeds them.
Starting in the fall of 2026, this e-Power hybrid drivetrain will be available in the redesigned 2027 Rogue Hybrid SR, with the full model range available in early 2027. Prices start at $37,065, including the $1,575 destination charge to ship the compact crossover SUV to a dealership from the Kyushu, Japan, assembly plant.
According to Nissan, the all-new 2027 Rogue Hybrid will make a total combined output of 225 horsepower. The automaker did not provide a similar combined torque figure, but the front motor generates 243 pound-feet from zero to 4,300 rpm while the rear motor supplies 144 pound-feet from zero to 3,000 rpm. Because maximum torque is available as soon as you step on the accelerator pedal, the Rogue Hybrid should feel responsive in city and suburban driving.
How fuel-efficient is the new 2027 Rogue Hybrid? Nissan estimates the SR trim level will get 40 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway, and 38 mpg combined. Based on those estimates, the SUV’s 14-gallon fuel tank promises up to 560 miles of city driving range (504 on the highway).
By comparison, the 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid, which uses a similar but unique electric-motor-driven hybrid powertrain, returns 40 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 37 mpg combined with all-wheel drive (AWD). The 2026 Toyota RAV4, using a conventional hybrid powertrain, gets anywhere from 38 to 43 mpg combined depending on the configuration..
The Rogue Hybrid has e-Pedal technology. It is a regenerative braking feature with several settings that a driver can optionally use to drive the SUV without touching the brake pedal. Release the accelerator, and strong regeneration will bring the Rogue Hybrid to a full stop. New “smooth stop” technology aims to reduce occupant discomfort as the SUV comes to a halt.
Nissan equips the new Rogue Hybrid with Zero Gravity seats, which the company claims reduce fatigue on longer drives. Available features include TailorFit artificial leather, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. Cargo space measures 31.1 cubic feet behind the back seat and 65.9 cubic feet with the rear seat folded down.
The dashboard includes a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring. Dual 14.3-inch displays (shown above) are available as an upgrade and equip the Rogue Hybrid with Google Built-in technology, including Gemini. Wireless smartphone charging is standard. SiriusXM 360L satellite radio, NissanConnect services, a Bose premium sound system, and head-up display are also available on higher trims.
Standard safety features include the usual suspects, with some unusual features such as intersection turn assistance, active blind spot warning with steering assistance, and Lead Car Departure Notification. That feature tells a distracted Rogue Hybrid driver when traffic ahead starts moving again. Surround view camera technology is also available..
Nissan claims several enhancements to the Rogue Hybrid’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). For example, new front radar and camera technology improves the performance of the adaptive cruise control and the ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous driving system, which now features hands-on detection.
In normal use, ProPilot Assist requires the driver to keep their hands on the steering wheel. However, an available new traffic jam assist function allows hands-free driving on approved highways at low speeds. Nissan also offers a new Auto Lane Change feature when using ProPilot Assist.
In addition to the Honda CR-V Hybrid and the Toyota RAV4, which has standard hybrid power, the new 2027 Nissan Rogue Hybrid will compete with the Jeep Cherokee (37 mpg combined), Kia Sportage Hybrid (35-41 mpg combined), Mazda CX-50 Hybrid (38 mpg combined), and Subaru Forester Hybrid (35 mpg combined).
Nissan might be late to this hybrid compact crossover SUV party, but the Rogue Hybrid’s innovative e-Power setup should help it stand apart from the crowd.
