Introduction - Find the best GMC Sierra 1500 deals!

It is challenging to stand out in the full-size pickup truck market, but the GMC Sierra 1500, with its bold design and upscale cabin, does just that. Throw the top-level Denali into the mix, and the Sierra 1500 is a great choice for the truck buyer who needs hauling and towing prowess without giving up the amenities of a fine automobile. The Sierra 1500 remains largely unchanged for the 2026 model year in anticipation of an all-new 2027 Sierra.

The 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 is available in regular, extended, and crew cab configurations, with short and standard bed lengths. Trim levels include Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, Denali, AT4, AT4X, and Denali Ultimate. Base prices range from about $42,000 to $87,000, including the destination charge.

What Our Independent Expert Drove for This GMC Sierra 1500 Review - Find the best GMC Sierra 1500 deals!

For this 2026 Sierra 1500 review, GMC provided a Denali Crew Cab 2WD with the following options:

  • The Denali Reserve Super Cruise package
  • A Duramax diesel engine
  • Downpour Metallic paint available at an extra cost
  • Molded splash guards

The test vehicle's manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $76,620, including the $2,795 destination charge to ship the truck from the Roanoke, Indiana, assembly plant to a local dealership. The price does not reflect any current rebates, incentives, or price adjustments since GMC manufactured the test vehicle.

Independent Expert Opinion: Design, Comfort, and Utility

It may share a platform with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, but the GMC Sierra has a distinct look that sets it apart from its close cousin. With a massive grille featuring the GMC logo in the center and stylish LED running lights, the Sierra 1500 has a wide stance and chiseled lines that give the truck a bold presence. The Denali I drove adds a touch of elegance with its signature chrome grille and exterior trim.

Retractable running boards make it easy to get in and out of the big truck. Once inside, I was impressed with the upscale cabin, outfitted with two-tone Atmosphere/Brownstone Forge perforated leather trim covering the seats, dashboard, doors, and center console. Stylish wood trim on the dashboard adds to the high-end design.

The large touchscreen display integrates well with the dashboard, and its slight tilt toward the driver makes it easier to reach. I appreciate that GMC includes a volume knob and a physical Home button, along with separate climate controls featuring easy-to-use buttons and dials. The additional buttons below provide quick access to vehicle functions such as traction control and the power tailgate release.

GMC offers the Sierra 1500 with a split bench seat up front, but my Denali came standard with bucket seats that were both stylish and comfortable, with supportive side bolsters, and heating and ventilation. The large center armrest opens to reveal a generous storage area, and a convenient slot below the latch houses the wireless smartphone charger, keeping your phone secure and within easy reach.

Beyond the center armrest, there is ample storage around the front seats. Although the gear selector and trailer brake controller take up valuable space, the large cupholders and an additional cubby at the front of the center console work well for smaller items. The Sierra 1500 also has covered storage built into the dashboard above the traditional glove box.

The Denali is available only in a crew cab configuration, and the four-door truck offers plenty of space for rear-seat passengers. The 43.4 inches of rear legroom is on par with that of a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, so taller passengers can stretch out, even in the middle seat. If cargo is the priority, the seat bottoms can be raised to provide additional loading space, and more storage is built into the outboard seatbacks.

As nice as the Sierra Denali is for carrying passengers, its primary function is hauling gear in the truck bed. The GMC provides easy access to the bed via integrated steps in the rear bumper and the power-operated MultiPro tailgate. While it can open like a traditional tailgate, it also offers multiple configurations, including a full-width step, a work surface, or a bed extender.

Independent Expert Opinion: Google Built-in Infotainment System Review

While the base-level Pro trim has a basic infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen, the rest of the lineup features the more advanced Google Built-in system on a 13.4-inch touchscreen. Higher trims also include a 12.3-inch gauge cluster and an available head-up display.

The Google-based system includes:

The Google-based infotainment system is among the most intuitive on the market, with straightforward navigation and large, easy-to-read icons. The screen is large enough to display multiple features at once, while shortcuts to audio, communications, and trailering functions remain fixed on the left side.

Logging in to your Google account imports saved destinations and favorites into Google Maps and provides access to the Google Play Store, where you can download apps like Waze or Spotify to the native system. Out of habit, I connected my Samsung Galaxy S23+ to run Android Auto. However, the Google system can effectively replicate its functionality. But Apple users need not worry—CarPlay is also standard.

While the screen is clear and responsive, the Google Assistant's natural voice system is an excellent alternative interface. Saying "Hey, Google, I would like Mexican food" brought up a list of nearby Mexican restaurants; choosing one launched Google Maps with directions. It was just as easy to call my wife, adjust the cabin temperature, and tune to a SiriusXM channel, all via voice commands.

Independent Expert Opinion: Driving the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500

GMC offers a range of engine options for the 2026 Sierra 1500. My Denali came with the Duramax 3.0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder engine, which produces 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission is standard, and while four-wheel drive (4WD) is available, my truck had rear-wheel drive (2WD). When properly equipped, the Sierra 1500 can tow up to 13,300 pounds or haul 2,230 pounds.pounds.

The diesel powertrain is the Sierra 1500's most fuel efficient option. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the big truck at 25 mpg combined, with a range of 600 miles. During my time behind the wheel of the Sierra 1500, the trip computer showed 25.6 mpg after completing my standard loop, which included a mix of highway and city driving.

The diesel-powered Sierra 1500 delivers plenty of torque, but it is better suited for towing heavy loads than for strong acceleration. Power is perfectly adequate for most driving situations. However, the big truck took a noticeably long time to reach 70 mph.

Once at highway speed, the Denali's cabin remains quiet, with minimal road and wind noise. However, it is still a truck, and you feel the bumps in the road. Yet the ride remains solid and confident. With comfortable seats and music playing on the high-end Bose audio system, the Sierra 1500 would work well for a long road trip.

Like any other large truck, the Sierra 1500 can be challenging to maneuver and park in tight spaces. But multiple camera views make life much easier, and parking within the lines is a breeze with the overhead view.

Independent Expert Opinion: GMC Pro Safety Features Review

Every 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 comes with GMC Pro Safety, the brand's suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). While it includes the basics, some popular features require an additional purchase or a higher trim level. Standard features include:

Optional features include:

Super Cruise is one of the more advanced hands-free driver assistance systems on the market, but to get it on the Sierra 1500, you need the high-end Denali trim; it is not available on any other variant. Since I was driving the Denali, my test truck had Super Cruise, and I made extensive use of it. Multiple flight delays, cancellations, and reschedules had me shuttling back and forth to the Detroit airport three times in 12 hours, and I was very happy to use Super Cruise for the 30-mile round trip on Interstate 94.

Super Cruise works on select multi-lane, limited-access freeways, and I-94 is one of them. Once I set the adaptive cruise control to 70 mph, I activated Super Cruise. The green light at the top of the steering wheel indicated it was operating, so I could let go of the wheel. Not only does the system keep the truck centered in the lane, but it will also automatically change lanes if it detects a slower vehicle ahead.

I was able to drive hands-free for the entire 30-mile trip, and not once did I feel I had to take over the controls. But Super Cruise is not for everyone. My wife does not feel comfortable when I use a hands-free driving system because it makes her very nervous.

The 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab earned a Marginal score in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) small-overlap front test and an Acceptable score in the updated side crash test. The big truck also earned an Acceptable rating for front crash prevention: pedestrian. However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) does not currently show ratings for the 2026 Sierra 1500 crew cab, though the regular cab and extended cab variants earned the highest-possible five-star overall safety rating.
