Meanwhile, the rival Ford Bronco, phased out after the 1996 model year, experienced a revival starting in 2021, reimagining its classic elements such as round headlights and slab-sided styling.
Both SUVs come in two- and four-door body styles, with removable roofs and doors for open air driving, giving buyers plenty of options. The 2026 Wrangler offers nine trim levels, while the 2026 Bronco has seven, including the high-speed desert-focused Raptor. The V8-powered Moab 392 is the Wrangler’s high-performance version. Both the Wrangler and Bronco provide electronic driving aids specifically designed for off-road driving.
One might see the Wrangler as the seasoned veteran in the segment, shaped by over 80 years of real world evolution, but it also features modern technology. The Bronco acts as the passionate revivalist, offering new technology and smoother on-road manners to attract daily drivers who still want to go off the beaten path.
In this long-standing rivalry, your decision comes down to heritage and specific hardware. Both the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco have proud histories and offer impressive all-around capabilities. When choosing between them, your gut may be a better guide than your head.
2026 Jeep Wrangler Moab 392
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler offers buyers nine conventional trims: Sport, Sport S, Willys, 85th Anniversary Edition, Willys ’41, Rubicon, Sahara, Rubicon X, and Moab 392. Notably, Jeep discontinued the plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe for the 2026 model year. Every 2026 Wrangler comes standard with four-wheel drive (4WD), and most versions can be ordered in either two- or four-door configurations. Prices start at $38,030 for the two-door Wrangler Sport. The top-tier four-door Moab 392 costs at least $81,990. All prices include the $1,995 destination charge.
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler does not include free scheduled maintenance, but it offers five years or 60,000 miles of complimentary roadside assistance. Regarding connectivity, each Wrangler comes with Jeep Connect One at no charge for the first 10 years, along with a 30-day trial of Wi-Fi hotspot service.
The 2026 Ford Bronco is available in seven trims: Base, Big Bend, Outer Banks, Badlands, Heritage Edition, Stroppe Edition, and Raptor. The Base and Badlands trims are offered in both two-door and four-door configurations. The Stroppe Edition, Big Bend, Outer Banks, Heritage Edition, and Raptor are four-door only. Four-door Broncos can be equipped with either a fold-away soft top or a hardtop, while two-door versions come with a hardtop. Pricing starts at $42,490 for the Base trim and reaches $81,990 for the Raptor. All prices include the $1,995 destination charge.
All 2026 Ford Bronco SUVs come with FordPass Connect, which includes roadside assistance for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, along with other connected services. Free scheduled maintenance is not included. The connected services cover safety, security, and vehicle status features. Additionally, a three-month trial with 3 GB of Wi-Fi hotspot data is included.
Advantage: Neither
Why? The Wrangler and Bronco have comparable trims and prices.
2026 Ford Bronco 60th Anniversary Package
The Jeep Wrangler does not rank among the top three models in the Compact SUV segment in the JD Power 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), which assesses owner reported problems after three years of ownership.
The Wrangler ranks second in its segment in the JD Power 2025 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS), which tracks problems experienced by owners during the first 90 days.
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler comes with a standard warranty of three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty of five years or 60,000 miles.
The Ford Bronco does not rank among the top three models in the Compact SUV segment in either the 2026 VDS or the 2025 IQS. Its warranty coverage is comparable to the Wrangler’s.
Advantage: Jeep Wrangler
Why? The Wrangler ranks second in its segment in initial quality.
2026 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler offers several powertrain options for potential buyers. Its standard setup features a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. An eight-speed automatic transmission is available as an option. The Wrangler also provides a 270-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder exclusively paired with an eight-speed automatic. The Moab 392 comes with a 6.4-liter V8 engine generating 470 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that V6-powered 2026 Wrangler models with manual transmissions get 19 mpg combined, while the automatic version gets 20 mpg. Wranglers with the turbocharged four-cylinder have an EPA-estimated 21 mpg combined. Lastly, the V8-powered Wrangler Moab gets 14 mpg combined.
The Wrangler comes with both two- and four-door styles, and there is a clear difference in how much they can carry. The two-door seats four people, while the four-door fits five. The four-door also offers much more cargo space behind the rear seats: 32 cubic feet compared to 13. In most setups, the Wrangler can tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped, with some models capable of towing 5,000 pounds.
The 2026 Ford Bronco offers three turbocharged EcoBoost engine options. The base engine is a 2.3-liter inline-four producing 300 hp and 325 pound-feet of torque. An optional 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 delivers 330 hp and 415 pound-feet of torque. The Raptor trim features a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that generates 418 hp and 440 pound-feet of torque. The 2.3-liter engine can be paired with either a seven-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission. Both V6 engines are exclusively paired with the 10-speed automatic.
According to the EPA, the 2026 Ford Bronco gets between 15 and 25 mpg combined, depending on the powertrain. The EPA says the four-cylinder-equipped 2026 Bronco will get 17-20 mpg, while the Bronco Raptor is estimated to achieve 15 mpg in combined driving.
Like the Wrangler, the 2026 Bronco is available in both two- and four-door models. The two-door seats four, while the four-door seats five. Sound familiar? The main difference between the Wrangler and Bronco lies in cargo capacity. The Bronco two-door provides 22 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, and the four-door offers 38 cubic feet. The towing capacity for most Broncos is 3,500 pounds.
Advantage: Ford Bronco
Why? The Bronco has a slight advantage in powertrain options and a larger advantage in cargo capacity.

So, how do the Wrangler and Bronco stack up? Let's take a look.
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler Sport lacks many common advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), but the rest of the 2026 Wrangler lineup offers a representative selection of standard ADAS. Adaptive cruise control (ACC) is standard on all trims except the Sport and Sport S, while blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and parking sensors are optional on most versions. Depending on the trim, some Wranglers are equipped with electronic top-speed limiters.
Regarding safety, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not yet assigned a safety rating to the 2026 Wrangler. Meanwhile, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2026 Wrangler a Good rating in the updated moderate overlap front test and the revised side test. However, the SUV earned only an Acceptable rating in the small overlap front test. The Institute did not name the 2026 Wrangler a Top Safety Pick.
The 2026 Ford Bronco offers a limited selection of standard ADAS through its Ford Co-Pilot360 suite. These include automatic high-beam headlights, hill descent control, post-collision braking, and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Optional features on higher trims include blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance, and a driver monitoring system. Optional packages include ACC, automatic emergency steering, and front and rear parking sensors.
Currently, the IIHS has not assessed the crashworthiness of the 2026 Ford Bronco. Meanwhile, the NHTSA has only rated the 2026 Bronco Sport, giving it the highest five-star safety rating.

Why? Sensing that some 4x4 enthusiasts prefer minimal intrusion, both the Wrangler and the Bronco keep the standard ADAS light, but they both offer extensive add-on options.
2026 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler arrives with the Uconnect 5 infotainment system topped by a 12.3-inch touchscreen. On base and mid-tier trims, the display shows audio information and climate controls. It offers AM/FM radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, and voice recognition as standard features. Higher-tier trims expand on these features with optional navigation. For audio enthusiasts, an Alpine premium audio system and HD Radio come standard on the top trims and are available as options on others.
Every 2026 Wrangler also includes Jeep Connect, a comprehensive connected-services suite that provides safety, security, and convenience features both inside the vehicle and through the Jeep mobile app. New owners get a three-month trial of either the Assistance package or the Assistance and Navigation package, up to five years of the Vehicle Performance package, and up to 10 years of the Safety and Security package.
Serious off-road enthusiasts will value the Off-Road Pages+ feature, which integrates trail-specific navigation directly into the center touchscreen. It offers detailed guides suited for everything from scenic sightseeing to tough rock crawling. Drivers can download guides for offline access, track their progress in real time, and set custom waypoints. A two-year subscription unlocks over 200 premium trail guides.
The 2026 Ford Bronco features the Sync 4 infotainment system, which has a 12-inch touchscreen with swipe features and improved voice recognition. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, AppLink, and 911 Assist. The base audio system has seven speakers, while a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system is available as an option on multiple trims. An AC power outlet is standard on most trims.
Ford offers the 2026 Bronco with a free one-year trial of the Ford Connectivity package. A seven-year Ford Connectivity subscription can be purchased with a one-time payment. The system enables remote vehicle control via the app, including engine start/stop and door lock/unlock. Additionally, Ford provides a one-year trial for Wi-Fi hotspot functionality.
The 2026 Bronco features various electronic systems and electronically controlled mechanical parts to improve off-road performance. Several trims come with a 4x4 system that has an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case, offering four drive modes plus neutral. The system adjusts power distribution to the front wheels based on traction and can electronically lock both axles when needed.

Why? The Jeep’s Uconnect 5 system surpasses Sync 4, and the Wrangler offers more extensive connected features, while its advanced off-road gear is comparable to the Bronco.
2026 Ford Bronco 60th Anniversary Package
The 2026 Jeep Wrangler enters this competition with unmatched off-road heritage, a proven suspension with solid axles, an electronic sway-bar disconnect, and a variety of off-road electronics. Beneath its classic squared-off hood, it offers diverse powertrains—turbo-four, V6, high-output V8—and a wide range of configurations with soft-top options and removable doors.
As an off-roader, the Wrangler is among the best. However, as a daily driver, the Jeep has some drawbacks, including wind and road noise, a stiff ride, vague steering, and lower fuel economy than SUVs that do not prioritize off-road capability. Basic trims also have limited advanced driver assistance features.
The 2026 Ford Bronco matches up with the Wrangler in a very deliberate way, offering a variant to nearly mirror each Wrangler trim. In the powertrain department, it relies solely on turbocharged EcoBoost engines, which deliver up to 418 hp in the special Raptor trim. On the trail, some might prefer the Wrangler’s naturally aspirated engine options.
With more highway refinement and better on-road handling, the Bronco makes daily driving easier than the Wrangler. It also offers removable tops and doors that some might find simpler to use than the Wrangler’s. Although its off-road capabilities are excellent, purists might argue that its independent front suspension offers less extreme rock-crawling articulation than the Wrangler's setup. Ultimately, both vehicles deliver iconic adventure without compromise. The Wrangler is ideal for purists who want low-speed trail mastery and proven durability, while the Bronco appeals to those who prioritize modern comfort and versatile performance.
Advantage: Jeep Wrangler
Why? Based purely on my personal prejudices, I would choose a V6-powered Wrangler over the turbocharged Bronco.
