2027 Lexus TZ Preview

With the 2027 Lexus TZ, Toyota Motor’s luxury division introduces its first three-row all-electric SUV, featuring a lounge-inspired interior, an enhanced all-wheel drive (AWD) system, and up to 300 miles of range.

What You Need to Know About the New 2027 Lexus TZ - Find the best Lexus deals!

Lexus is no stranger to electrification, having embraced the technology in its vehicles for decades. Yet the Japanese luxury brand has never offered a three-row all-electric SUV. That changes with the introduction of the 2027 TZ.

More than just an all-electric version of the automaker’s existing three-row TX SUV, the TZ rides on a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) platform shared with the new 2027 Toyota Highlander, also an EV. Indeed, the gas or hybrid-powered TX is longer and taller than the TZ, but the latter has a longer wheelbase, which gives it the advantage when it comes to legroom.

Power in the new TZ comes from either a 77.0- or 95.8-kilowatt-hour battery and is sent to all four wheels via Lexus’ Direct4 AWD system. Direct4 can adjust torque between the front and rear electric motors to improve acceleration or cornering. The TZ features a NACS charging port compatible with the Tesla Supercharger network, making it easy to find a charging station.

The TZ also offers available rear-wheel steering (Lexus calls it Dynamic Rear Steering, or DRS), which allows the rear wheels to steer up to 4 degrees to improve maneuverability or stability, depending on vehicle speed. Additionally, five drive modes are available, including Rear Comfort.

As with other Lexus products, pampering drivers and passengers is the priority for the all-new TZ. Drawing on its Driving Lounge concept, the TZ’s interior features a spacious cabin outfitted with upscale materials such as Forged Bamboo and plant-derived UltraSuede. Buyers can opt for front-passenger and second-row seats with ventilation and power ottomans, bringing couch-like comfort to the TZ. An extra long panoramic roof with a power sunshade offers passengers in all three rows a full view of the cosmos.

As you would expect, the new TZ features top notch infotainment with the latest generation Lexus Interface. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, SiriusXM with 360L satellite radio, and music streaming via Spotify (subscription required). The infotainment system also offers customizable Home screen widgets and an improved voice assistant. Drivers benefit from full-screen navigation on the digital gauge display. A 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio system is also standard.

The 2027 TZ comes standard with the latest-generation Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 (LSS+ 4.0) suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The suite includes automatic emergency steering, intersection turn assistance, energy-saving adaptive cruise control, and Proactive Driving Assist.

Lexus says it will announce full details on trim levels and pricing later in 2026.

2027 Lexus TZ Competitors - Find the best Lexus deals!

The Lexus TZ will compete with other luxury all-electric three-row SUVs, including the Cadillac Vistiq, Rivian R1S, and Volvo EX90. Buyers less concerned with a luxury badge and looking to save a few dollars might also consider higher-trim versions of the Hyundai Ioniq 9, Subaru Getaway, and all-new Toyota Highlander.

While a three-row electric SUV is a logical next step for Lexus, it remains to be seen whether the TZ can differentiate itself from the Highlander, with which it shares a platform. Will customers be willing to pay thousands more for the Lexus badge and a few extra features? Lexus is betting they will.
