The 2025 Ford F-150 and 2025 Ram 1500 embody two different philosophies in the full-size pickup truck market. They manage to attract a diverse range of buyers while competing head-to-head. Both are excellent full-size pickups, but each has its own particular strengths.
The F-150 has long been Ford's top model, and much of its strength comes from its versatility. It is a truck that can function as a reliable worksite tool, a family vehicle, or even a luxury option, depending on the trim and configuration.
The Ram 1500, on the other hand, has focused on a different identity. While it does not offer the same wide range of options as the F-150, it has gained a loyal following among buyers who value comfort, refinement, and everyday usability. Yes, it includes work truck versions, but Ram highlights personal-use trim levels.
In short, Ford highlights a broad range and commercial capability, while Ram focuses on comfort and specialization. Both approaches appeal to different types of truck owners. Which truck suits you best? This comparison will help you decide.

The 2025 Ford F-150 lineup includes eight trims: XL, STX, XLT, Tremor, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Raptor. Buyers can select from various cab styles, wheelbases, and powertrains. Rear-wheel drive (2WD) is standard on most models, though four-wheel drive (4WD) is also widely available. The Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck is a separate model and is not part of this comparison.
At the entry level, the XL Regular Cab starts at $41,405, while the performance-focused Raptor begins at $81,600. Prices include the $2,595 destination charge.
Every 2025 F-150 is supported with free roadside assistance for five years or 60,000 miles, but free scheduled maintenance is not included. FordPass Connect comes standard across the entire lineup and includes a one-year trial of connected navigation and security services.
The 2025 Ram 1500 offers 10 trims: Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, Big Horn, Warlock, Laramie, Rebel, RHO, Limited, Limited Longhorn, and Tungsten. Buyers can select either Quad Cab (extended cab) or Crew Cab configurations, with two bed lengths available. Both 2WD and 4WD options are widely available, and the 2025 Ram 1500 features two very different six-cylinder engines.
The 2WD Tradesman Quad Cab is the least expensive trim, starting at $42,370. At the other end of the spectrum, the ultra-luxurious Tungsten begins at $89,170. Prices include the $2,095 destination charge.
Ram offers 1500 buyers five years or 60,000 miles of roadside assistance, but it does not include complimentary maintenance. Ram Connect provides a range of connectivity options, including a three-month/three-gigabyte trial of a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Advantage: Ford F-150
Why? The F-150 gives potential buyers more options.

The Ford F-150 does not rank among the top three models in the Large Light Duty Pickup segment in the JD Power 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), which assesses owner-reported problems during the third year of ownership.
In a tie with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the F-150 ranks highest in its segment in the JD Power 2025 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS), which tracks problems experienced by owners during the first 90 days.
The 2025 Ford F-150 comes with a standard warranty of three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty of five years or 60,000 miles.
The Ram 1500 does not rank among the top three models in the Large Light Duty Pickup segment in the 2025 VDS or the 2025 IQS. Its warranty coverage is comparable to the F-150.
Advantage: Ford F-150
Why? The F-150 ranks highest in its segment (in a tie) in initial quality.

The 2025 Ford F-150 offers a wide range of engine options. The standard turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 produces 325 horsepower, while the larger-displacement 3.5-liter turbo V6 delivers 400 hp. A hybrid system combining the 3.5-liter V6 with electric power boosts output to 430 hp, and the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 also provides 400 hp. At the top end, the Raptor features a 450-hp version of the 3.5-liter turbo V6, with an option to upgrade to a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 rated at 720 hp.
It is no surprise that, according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates, the hybrid is the most fuel efficient option, returning 23 mpg combined. The turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 follows with a 21-mpg combined rating, while the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 achieves 20 mpg. The 5.0-liter V8 gets 19 mpg combined, and the Raptor, equipped with its high-output V6, is estimated to deliver 16 mpg combined. At the time of writing, the EPA has not rated the supercharged V8’s fuel economy.
The F-150 offers three cab styles: the Regular Cab, which seats two or three; the Super Cab (extended cab), with room for up to six passengers; and the larger SuperCrew (crew cab), which seats six occupants more comfortably. Bed options include 5.5-, 6.5-, and 8-foot lengths, depending on the trim level and cab design. When equipped with the optional 400-hp turbocharged V6, the 2025 F-150 can tow up to 13,500 pounds. Payload ratings vary by powertrain, reaching a maximum of 2,455 pounds.
The 2025 Ram 1500 offers two engine options: a 3.6-liter V6 and a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six. The base V6 generates 305 hp and 269 pound-feet of torque. The inline-six produces 420 hp and 469 pound-feet of torque in its standard form, while its high-output version is tuned to deliver 540 hp and 521 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The most fuel-efficient 2025 Ram 1500 is the Tradesman HFE with the V6, achieving a combined fuel economy rating of 23 mpg. The inline-six model with the best fuel economy gets 21 mpg in combined driving. Adding 4WD reduces fuel efficiency by 1-2 miles per gallon.
Unlike the Ford F-150, the Ram 1500 does not offer a traditional regular cab version; instead, it provides Quad Cab and Crew Cab options. Both have excellent front seat space, but the Crew Cab offers more rear seat room than the Quad Cab. Ram 1500s seat five or six, and they come with two bed lengths: 6 feet, 4 inches or 5 feet, 7 inches. The maximum towing capacity is 11,600 pounds, and the highest payload rating is 2,360 pounds.
Advantage: Ford F-150
Why? The Ford provides more engine options and higher payload and towing capacities.

At this point, it is reasonable for any consumer to expect a brand new vehicle to include the following safety features:
So, how do the F-150 and Ram 1500 stack up? Let's take a look.
For the 2025 model year, Ford equips every F-150 trim with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) through the Ford Co-Pilot360 collection. Standard technologies include lane keeping assistance, forward collision warning, blind spot warning, and rear cross-traffic warning. Higher levels of driver assistance, such as a surround view camera, adaptive cruise control (ACC), trailer reverse guidance, and a driver monitoring system, are included on upper trims and available as options on the XLT.
Several F-150 trims offer Ford’s BlueCruise semi-autonomous driving system, which enables hands-free operation on more than 130,000 miles of highways across North America. The system controls acceleration, braking, and steering without driver input, and many F-150 trims include a 90-day trial period.
On the safety front, the 2025 F-150 earned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) top overall crashworthiness rating of five stars. Additionally, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recognized the 2024 F-150 as a “Top Safety Pick” for the 2024 calendar year. However, at the time of writing, the Institute has not yet confirmed whether the award will extend through 2025.
The 2025 Ram 1500 includes most of the systems listed at the top of this section, although several are optional. It also comes with standard ACC, blind spot warning with trailer coverage, and rear cross-traffic warning. Features such as a driver monitoring system, automatic emergency steering, intersection turn assistance, and traffic sign recognition are available on certain trims. Front and rear parking assist, along with rear automatic braking, are standard across all trims, while active parking assistance is optional on certain versions.
The Ram 1500’s available hands-free Active Driving Assist system handles some routine driving tasks. Using sensors, cameras, and radar, it can maintain a set speed, keep a safe following distance, and help keep the truck centered in its lane on approved roads. While the system allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel, it still requires constant attention to the road and monitors driver engagement to ensure safety.
Like the F-150, the 2025 Ram 1500 received a five-star overall crashworthiness rating from the NHTSA. Meanwhile, the IIHS gave the 2025 1500 a “Good” rating in the updated side crash test, but it did not name the truck a “Top Safety Pick” for 2025.
Advantage: Neither
Why? Both trucks provide strong ADAS packages.

The 2025 Ford F-150 features the Sync 4 infotainment system, which includes a 12-inch capacitive touchscreen. It offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, along with SiriusXM with 360L satellite radio. A one-year trial of connected navigation is included. Voice commands have improved natural language recognition, and higher trims can be equipped with premium Bang & Olufsen audio systems.
All 2025 F-150 pickups come standard with FordPass Connect, which includes a Wi-Fi hotspot capable of connecting up to 10 devices simultaneously. The system supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates and features functions like Stolen Vehicle Services and connected navigation access. A complimentary one-year trial of FordPass Connect services is included.
The F-150 also features a comprehensive set of towing assistance technologies. Pro Trailer Backup Assist enables the driver to maneuver the truck and trailer in reverse using a console-mounted knob. At the same time, the available Pro Trailer Hitch Assist automates trailer alignment with the press of a button. Additional aids include Trailer Reverse Guidance and blind spot warning with trailer coverage.
Lower Ram 1500 trims feature a Ram Uconnect 5 infotainment system centered around an 8.4-inch touchscreen. It includes AM/FM radio and streaming audio. Voice command and hands-free calling are built in, and the system supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Mid-level trims come equipped with the Uconnect 5 Nav system, featuring a 12-inch touchscreen that consolidates audio and climate controls. It offers HD Radio, SiriusXM 360, and integrated navigation powered by TomTom. The top-level Tungsten trim features Uconnect 5 Nav with a 14.4-inch touchscreen. A 19-speaker system is the most widely available premium sound option.
The 2025 Ram 1500 features the new Connect One package, free for 10 years. It offers OTA software updates, vehicle health reports, recall alerts, SOS calls, remote lock and unlock functions, basic navigation, and supports digital keys on select trims. The Connect Wi-Fi Plus subscription, with a three-month trial, adds Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities, expanded remote features, stolen-vehicle tracking, drive alerts, voice assistant functions, and connected navigation with real-time data.
The Ram 1500’s Trailer Auto Hitch Assist is designed to simplify the process of connecting a vehicle to a trailer. When activated, the system automatically manages the vehicle’s steering to help line it up with the trailer tongue. The driver is still responsible for controlling the throttle and brake during the process.
Advantage: Ram 1500
Why? Based on personal experience, I prefer Uconnect 5 to Sync 4.

The 2025 Ford F-150 remains a vital component of Ford's lineup, playing a pivotal role in both the company's business strategy and the full-size pickup truck market. Year after year, it remains Ford's top model, with engineers ensuring the lineup appeals to a wide range of buyers. Much of the F-150's appeal stems from its versatility, offering trims that cater to budget-conscious work truck buyers, families seeking everyday practicality, and customers who desire luxury comfort or rugged off-road capabilities.
That versatility is matched by its capability and technology. Buyers can choose from Ford’s range of turbocharged EcoBoost engines or a reliable V8. Inside, the truck is just as adaptable, offering advanced infotainment and upscale features. For those who tow, the F-150 offers a range of segment-leading technologies designed to simplify trailer hookups and boost confidence on the road. Therefore, it is easy to see why the F-150 continues to define the segment.
The 2025 Ram 1500 offers fewer variations compared to the best-selling F-150 and trails Ford in maximum towing capacity. However, the Ram 1500 emphasizes its reputation as the most comfortable and smoothest-riding full-size pickup. The new Tungsten trim for 2025 showcases this focus on personal comfort with features such as an all-new power tailgate and quilted leather seats inside. And you do not need to choose the top trim to enjoy luxury features.
Under the hood, the 2025 Ram is in a state of transition. Not long ago, the brand made a bold move to drop the well-known Hemi V8 in favor of a new, high-tech 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine. That engine is currently the top option, but Ram has already announced the Hemi V8 will return for 2026. If you are a traditionalist, waiting for the 2026 model (you will not have to wait long) might be the best choice. If you are planning to use your truck as a family vehicle, your entire crew is likely to appreciate the many creature comforts of the Ram 1500.
Advantage: Ford F-150
Why? If I had to choose a 2025 pickup from this pair, I would opt for an F-150 model equipped with a V8 engine. Next year, I might favor a Hemi-equipped Ram 1500.
