2026 Kia K4 Preview

The Kia K4 is a distinctive looking compact car that delivers a lot of features and style for the money. It also offers a choice of engines, including a powerful turbocharged engine that produces 190 horsepower. Unlike some of its rivals, it is not offered as a hybrid, though its lineup expands for 2026 with the new K4 Hatchback body style.

The new K4 Hatchback is the big news for 2026, adding variety to Kia’s small car lineup. It shares its front end and interior design with the sedan, but it is a whopping 11 inches shorter overall and has a different cargo area.

Moreover, because sedan trunks and hatchback cargo areas are so different in shape and concept, it is better to compare the hatchback’s 22.2 cubic feet of cargo capacity to that of other hatchbacks rather than to the sedan’s 14.6 cubic feet (they are like apples and oranges). To that end, the hatchback’s cargo area is a bit bigger than the Mazda3’s, much bigger than the Corolla Hatchback’s, and just behind the Honda Civic’s.

Kia offers the K4 Hatchback in only the EX, GT-Line, and GT-Line Turbo trim levels. The K4 sedan has those, too, but adds the LX and LXS to the bottom of the lineup. All except the turbo versions come with the same 147-hp four-cylinder engine and continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The turbocharged engine produces 190 hp.

Kia says the Hatchback’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fuel economy estimates will be 30 mpg combined for the base engine. Estimates for the 2026 sedan were not available at the time of this writing, but they are unlikely to change much from 2025. If that is the case, the sedan should get much better fuel economy: 33 mpg combined.

Kia’s estimated fuel economy for the GT-Line Turbo Hatchback is 28 mpg combined. The EPA estimated the 2025 K4 GT-Line Turbo sedan at 29 mpg combined.

Technology remains a strong point. The 2026 K4 comes standard with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, and four USB-C ports. The EX, and therefore every Hatchback, adds a wireless smartphone charger and a 5-inch touchscreen for the climate controls. The GT-Line Turbo adds navigation, Kia Connect smartphone controls, a Harman Kardon sound system, and Kia’s “AI Assistant” voice controls.

The 2026 K4 also comes standard with a comprehensive array of well-executed safety technologies. Standard on all trims are forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking (with pedestrian and cyclist detection plus intersection turn assistance), lane keeping assistance, a driver monitoring system, and adaptive cruise control. The LXS and higher trims (all Hatchbacks) add blind spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning with emergency braking.

Pricing for the 2026 Kia K4 sedan lineup starts at $23,535 for the LX and tops out at $29,635 for the GT-Line Turbo. Meanwhile, the new 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback EX starts at $26,235. All prices include the $1,245 destination charge.

The Kia K4 is one of several compact cars available in sedan and hatchback body styles. Others include the Honda Civic, Mazda3, and Toyota Corolla. The Hyundai Elantra and Nissan Sentra are sedan-only. All but the Sentra offer some performance enhancement, and the Civic, Corolla, and Elantra are offered as hybrids.
