Kia is adding another new compact car to its lineup. The 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback is based on the K4 sedan and features distinctive styling and greater cargo flexibility. But Kia didn't just change the sedan's roofline and call it a day. The new hatchback offers unique features and changes that distinguish it from the K4 sedan, making it a compelling choice in its segment.

By forgoing a trunk in favor of a hatchback design, Kia has increased the K4's cargo capacity from 14.6 cubic feet in the K4 sedan to 22.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 59.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. But that's not the only change. Kia shrunk the hatchback's overall length by up to 11 inches, making the K4 Hatchback easier to park and maneuver in crowded urban areas.
Under the hood, you'll choose between a standard 147-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or a 190-hp, turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) drives the front wheels with the standard engine, while the turbo four employs a conventional eight-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is unavailable on the K4 Hatchback.
Kia says that the K4 Hatchback GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo are tuned to deliver a sportier ride, and they have paddle shifters and larger brakes (Turbo) to back it up. Those trim levels also wear GT-specific design cues such as 18-inch alloy wheels, gloss black accents, and distinctive headlights and fog lights.

Every 2026 K4 Hatchback features a digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Kia Connect services provide access to a Wi-Fi hotspot and a generative AI digital voice assistant to control various features using voice commands. Wireless smartphone charging is also standard, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system is available.
Kia also equips all K4 Hatchbacks with a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Highlights include blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning, lane-keeping assistance, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability.
Higher trims offer safety features not commonly found in the compact car segment. They include automatic emergency steering, a surround-view camera system, a camera-based Blind Spot View Monitor, and Highway Driving Assist (HDA). The HDA system pairs the adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assistance to create a hands-on, semi-autonomous driving-assistance system.
High-end available features include an ultra-wide sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, and Kia's latest digital key technology.

Although hatchbacks typically aren't as popular in America as they are in Europe or Asia, they still hold plenty of appeal for their added cargo versatility and smaller dimensions. So, when the new K4 Hatchback goes on sale in late 2025, it will face several rivals, including the Honda Civic Hatchback, Mazda 3 Hatchback, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Corolla Hatchback.
