In Chevrolet’s SUV lineup, the 2026 Trax and 2026 Trailblazer occupy closely related territory, offering subcompact sizes, five-passenger seating, and affordable pricing that appeal to budget conscious shoppers. At first glance, they seem similar, sharing key styling cues, comparable interior space, and similar technology features. However, upon closer inspection, their differences might make one a better fit for your preferences than the other.
The Trax emphasizes affordability. It enters the market with one of the lowest starting prices in its class while still offering a modern cabin, good fuel economy, and a suite of standard driver assistance systems (ADAS). Power is provided by a turbocharged three-cylinder engine paired with a conventional six-speed automatic transmission. Inside, the Trax provides passenger and cargo space that competes with larger rivals, along with an easy-to-use infotainment system.
The Trailblazer builds on many of those same fundamentals while expanding the formula. It offers a wider range of configurations, including available all-wheel drive (AWD) across the lineup and an optional, more powerful turbocharged engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. These additions give the Trailblazer broader appeal, especially for buyers who prioritize all-weather capability. The Trailblazer also emphasizes more upscale features.
Despite sharing the same platform and similar dimensions, the Trax and Trailblazer follow different paths to meet buyer needs. One focuses on simplicity and affordability, while the other adds more capability and equipment at a higher price. This comparison will help you choose the right one.

2026 Chevrolet Trax Activ
For 2026, the Chevrolet Trax offers five trim levels: LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ. Every version is only available with front-wheel drive (FWD). Although Chevrolet classifies the Trax as an SUV, AWD is not offered across the lineup, including the adventure-themed Activ trim. The base price starts at $23,495 for the LS, with the top-tier trims—Activ and 2RS—priced the same at $27,195. All prices include the $1,795 destination charge.
Trax ownership includes five years or 60,000 miles of complimentary roadside assistance, along with one free scheduled maintenance visit within the first 12,000 miles. Every 2026 Trax also features access to General Motors’ (GM) OnStar connected services. The standard OnStar Basics package, included for eight years, provides automatic crash response, stolen vehicle assistance, and remote vehicle functions, with additional features available through paid subscriptions.
The 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer comes in four trims: LS, LT, Activ, and RS. Front-wheel drive is standard, with AWD available on all trims. Chevrolet prices the FWD LS at $25,095. The Activ and RS trims are the highest priced, both starting at $29,695. Adding AWD costs an extra $1,600 to $2,000, depending on the trim. All prices include the $1,795 destination charge.
Like the Trax, the Trailblazer offers free roadside assistance for five years or 60,000 miles, and the first scheduled maintenance is included. Trailblazer buyers also get OnStar Basics connected services free for eight years, which include voice assistance, real-time traffic navigation, remote commands, and automatic crash response. Chevy’s Mobile Service provides options for at-home service, pickup and delivery, and a loaner vehicle.
Advantage: Chevrolet Trailblazer
Why? Despite the Trax’s lower price, for buyers who believe an SUV should have AWD, the Trailblazer provides more flexibility that the Trax cannot match.

2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer Activ
The Chevrolet Trax does not rank among the top three models in the Small SUV segment in the JD Power 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), which assesses owner reported problems after three years of ownership.
The Trax also does not rank among the top three models in its segment in the JD Power 2025 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS), which tracks problems experienced by owners during the first 90 days.
The 2026 Chevrolet Trax comes with a standard warranty of three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty of five years or 60,000 miles.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer does not rank among the top three models in the Small SUV segment in the 2026 VDS, but it ties for third in its segment in the 2025 IQS. Its warranty coverage is the same as the Trax.
Advantage: Chevrolet Trailblazer
Why? The Trailblazer performs especially well in initial quality.

2026 Chevrolet Trax Activ
For the 2026 model year, the Chevrolet Trax maintains its single powertrain option: a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The engine pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheels. Although three-cylinder engines remain uncommon, the Trax delivers adequate daily performance.
Fuel economy numbers for the 2026 Trax are competitive in its class. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), flex-fuel versions get 30 mpg combined when running on regular gasoline and 22 mpg on E85, which is mostly ethanol. Gas-only versions are rated at an EPA-estimated 29 mpg combined.
The Trax is 4.6 inches longer overall than the Trailblazer and has a 2.1-inch longer wheelbase. Conversely, the Trailblazer is about 3.0 inches taller. Both Chevys are hatchback crossovers that seat up to five people. Passenger legroom, headroom, and shoulder room are very similar. The Trax offers cargo capacity of 25.6 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 54.1 cubic feet with the seatbacks folded.
Like the Trax, the 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer features a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine as its standard option. It is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) in FWD models. Buyers can also select a turbocharged 1.3-liter three-cylinder engine that delivers 155 hp and 174 pound-feet of torque. When equipped with AWD, the Trailblazer replaces the CVT with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
EPA fuel-economy ratings for the 2026 Trailblazer list the 1.3-liter FWD model at 31 mpg combined. All-wheel-drive versions with the 1.3-liter engine are rated at 27 mpg combined. EPA ratings for Trailblazers equipped with the 1.2-liter engine are 30 mpg combined on gasoline and 22 mpg combined when using E85 fuel.
The 2026 Trailblazer and Trax have very similar interior sizes and passenger space. Like the Trax, basic trims come with cloth upholstery, while Activ and RS trims get upgraded synthetic materials. Cargo capacity is 25.3 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 54.4 cubic feet when the seats are folded down. A hands-free power liftgate is available on the LT trim.
Advantage: Chevrolet Trailblazer
Why? The optional 1.3-liter engine and available AWD make the Trailblazer a more capable and versatile choice.

2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer Activ
At this point, it is reasonable for any consumer to expect a brand new vehicle to include the following safety features:
So, how do the Trax and Trailblazer stack up? Let's take a look.
Despite its entry-level price, the 2026 Chevrolet Trax offers a strong lineup of standard ADAS. Every trim comes with Chevy Safety Assist, which includes essential technologies along with automatic high-beam headlights and a following distance indicator. A rear seat reminder system and GM’s Teen Driver are also included as standard equipment. Optional safety enhancements feature adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane centering assistance, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and park assist.
At the time of writing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not issued a five-star safety rating for the 2026 Chevrolet Trax. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Trax received a Good rating in the small-overlap front crash test but was rated Poor in the revised moderate-overlap front assessment. The 2026 Trax did not qualify for an IIHS Top Safety Pick award.
The 2026 Trailblazer comes with Chevy Safety Assist as standard, offering several of the systems listed above. GM’s Teen Driver safety monitoring system is also included as standard equipment. Additional safety features, such as ACC, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and rear park assist, are available depending on the trim and package.
In its testing, the NHTSA gave the 2026 Trailblazer a top five-star overall safety rating. Meanwhile, IIHS testing resulted in a Good score in the small-overlap front test, the only crashworthiness category evaluated for the Trailblazer. Unfortunately, the SUV did not earn a Top Safety Pick designation.
Advantage: Chevrolet Trailblazer
Why? The 2026 five-star NHTSA safety rating gives the Trailblazer an edge.

2026 Chevrolet Trax Activ
Targeted at younger buyers, the 2026 Chevrolet Trax features two similar and capable infotainment systems. The LS, 1RS, and LT trims come with an 8-inch center touchscreen, while the 2RS and Activ models upgrade to a larger 11-inch display. Both systems support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, voice control, a trial of SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth connectivity. Higher trims add an 8-inch digital driver information display and a six-speaker sound system.
Every 2026 Trax includes access to GM’s OnStar connected-services suite, which offers various subscription levels. The standard OnStar Basics package, provided free for eight years, includes automatic crash response, stolen vehicle assistance, remote commands for your vehicle, on-demand diagnostics, and real-time vehicle status alerts. An in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot is available through an optional paid subscription, along with other services.
Active noise cancellation comes standard on the 2026 Trax lineup, a significant feature. The system uses in-cabin microphones to detect low-frequency engine and road noise and counteract it through the audio system, helping to lower cabin sound levels. No subscription is needed for this feature.
The 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer features an 11-inch touchscreen and an 8-inch digital driver display as standard equipment. It includes wireless smartphone integration, Bluetooth for two devices, USB-A and USB-C ports, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. SiriusXM is offered optionally. Most trims come with a six-speaker system, and a Bose seven-speaker system is available. Wireless smartphone charging is included on all trims except the base LS.
Like its sibling, the Chevy Trax, the Trailblazer provides buyers with free OnStar Basics for eight years. The Trailblazer also offers OnStar One, a subscription service that includes a comprehensive bundle of vehicle safety, connectivity, and hands-free driving assistance features for a single monthly fee. It includes 24/7 support, in-vehicle Wi-Fi, and various safety improvements.
The Trailblazer’s selectable AWD system allows drivers to toggle the feature on or off based on driving conditions and weather, while continuously monitoring all four wheels and automatically adjusting torque for maximum traction. It aims to improve control and stability in low traction conditions such as rain, sleet, and snow.
Advantage: Chevrolet Trailblazer
Why? The Trailblazer comes with a larger touchscreen as standard and offers an optional selectable AWD system.

2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer Activ
The low price is the 2026 Chevrolet Trax’s main selling point. It beats most rivals cost-wise while still providing a modern interior, good fuel economy, and a commendable list of standard driver assistance features. Although its three-cylinder engine might confuse some, its traditional six-speed automatic transmission offers a more natural driving experience. The Trax also provides generous interior and cargo space for a small crossover.
The Trax’s biggest limitation is the lack of drivetrain options. All-wheel drive is not available anywhere in the lineup, even on the Activ trim, which could be a deal-breaker for buyers in colder climates. Performance is decent but not exceptional. Safety is also inconsistent, with no current NHTSA rating and uneven IIHS results that prevent it from earning top safety honors. Buyers wanting quicker acceleration, better traction, or higher safety scores might find the Trax falls short.
The 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer maintains many of the Trax’s strengths while offering increased versatility. With AWD available on all trims and an optional turbocharged 1.3-liter engine, it appeals to a broader range of drivers. The Trailblazer also boasts improved safety and quality ratings, including a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA and a top three finish in the 2025 Initial Quality Study. Additionally, a larger standard infotainment screen and a hands-free power liftgate enhance its features.
Of course, those added capabilities come with a cost. The Trailblazer has a noticeably higher starting price than the Trax. Fuel economy decreases with AWD, and FWD versions rely on a CVT that may not appeal to all drivers. While the interior space closely mirrors that of the Trax, buyers pay more without gaining significant interior room advantages. For shoppers who do not need AWD or extra power, the Trailblazer’s price premium might be hard to justify.
Advantage: Chevrolet Trailblazer
Why? If you can afford the extra money, I would recommend going for an AWD-equipped Trailblazer, especially if you live in a cold climate.
