2025 Toyota Camry vs. 2025 Kia K5 Comparison

Jack R. Nerad | Jul 29, 2025

In the declining yet still important midsize sedan market, two models continue to strongly appeal to buyers who prefer to avoid an SUV while still enjoying comfort, practicality, and value—the 2025 Toyota Camry and the 2025 Kia K5. These two sedans approach the market with different philosophies: one based on proven efficiency and reliability, the other emphasizing bold design and advanced technology.

Toyota's latest Camry stays true to the formula that has kept it a top seller for decades. Now exclusively hybrid-powered, it emphasizes fuel economy, smooth driving, and interior refinement. The cabin features a shift toward more modern materials and cleaner designs, while its available all-wheel drive (AWD) offers practical versatility. It’s a familiar package updated with enough polish to remain relevant in a changing market.

The Kia K5, on the other hand, takes a different approach. It doesn’t have a hybrid powertrain, but it makes a bold visual and dynamic statement. Its sculpted design, sport-inspired trims, and available high-output turbocharged engine give it a presence usually seen in high-performance sedans. Inside, the K5 complements its exterior with a wide, high-tech display setup and user-friendly controls.

While both cars offer great value, they cater to different priorities. One focuses on subtle evolution, while the other excels with innovative design. This comparison examines how each measures up in areas such as performance, technology, safety, and overall value, while highlighting what makes each one uniquely suited to today's midsize sedan buyer.

The 2025 Toyota Camry comes in four trim levels: LE, SE, XLE, and XSE. Buyers can equip each trim with either front-wheel drive (FWD) or AWD. All 2025 Camrys feature hybrid powertrains. Prices start at $29,835 for the LE and go up to $37,620 for the XSE AWD. Prices include the $1,135 destination charge.

Every Camry comes with a 10-year trial of Safety Connect (emergency assistance and vehicle location) and Service Connect (maintenance updates). A 30-day trial of in-car Wi-Fi is also included. ToyotaCare is provided, offering free scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, along with roadside assistance with no mileage limit for two years.

The 2025 Kia K5 offers car buyers four trim levels: LXS, GT-Line, EX, and GT. Most K5s are FWD, but AWD is available on the GT-Line. Standard models use an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the GT performance trim features a dual-clutch automated transmission (DCT). The LXS, with a starting price of $28,365, is the most affordable K5 trim. At the top of the lineup is the EX, starting at $35,865. Prices include the $1,175 destination charge.

While Kia does not offer complimentary scheduled maintenance on the K5, it provides 2025 K5 buyers with free roadside assistance for five years or 60,000 miles. Additionally, all K5 models come equipped with Kia Connect services, which offer a range of remote and convenience features. The Lite version is free for five years, and more advanced features are available through various subscription plans.

Advantage: Neither

Why? The Camry has the benefit of an all-hybrid lineup, while the K5 competes with the option of a powerful GT version.

The Camry does not rank among the top three models in the Midsize Car segment in the JD Power 2025 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS), which tracks problems experienced by owners during the first 90 days.

The 2025 Toyota Camry comes standard with a three-year/36,000-mile warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

The Kia K5 does not rank among the top three models in the Midsize Car segment in the 2025 VDS or the 2025 IQS.

Kia offers one of the industry's longest warranties: five years or 60,000 miles for basic coverage and 10 years or 100,000 miles for the powertrain.

Advantage: Neither

Why? The Camry is more dependable, but the K5 offers a longer warranty.

Performance, Efficiency, and Utility

The 2025 Camry features hybrid drivetrains throughout the entire lineup. The standard system combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor that powers the front wheels, delivering a total of 225 horsepower. All-wheel-drive models feature a second electric motor for the rear axle, resulting in an increased output of 232 hp. Both configurations utilize an electronic continuously variable transmission (CVT).

According to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates, FWD Camrys get 51 mpg combined, while AWD models are rated at 46 mpg combined.

All 2025 Camry sedans seat five and offer a trunk capacity of 15.1 cubic feet, which is typical for midsize sedans. A standard 60/40 split-folding rear seat is included, and a remote trunk release is available on the key fob. Instrumentation consists of a 7-inch digital cluster on base trims and a 12.3-inch version on higher trims.

The 2025 Kia K5 is available with two different powertrains, depending on the trim level. Most models are equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 191 hp and 181 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The GT performance model features a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 290 hp and 311 pound-feet of torque and is equipped with an eight-speed “wet” DCT.

The base Kia K5 is EPA-rated at 30 mpg combined, while the AWD version gets 27 mpg. The EPA estimates the turbocharged K5 will also deliver 27 mpg.

The 2025 K5's interior is driver-focused and comfortable. With available SynTex upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, and new dual panoramic displays, the cabin provides modern comfort and technology, along with ample seating for five passengers. Rear-seat legroom is competitive, and the GT trim adds ventilated front seats and a flat-bottom steering wheel for a sportier feel to complement its high-powered engine. The cargo capacity is 15.6 cubic feet, which is about the segment average.

Advantage: Neither

Why? The K5 offers risk-averse drivers a conventional base engine paired with an automatic transmission. In comparison, the base Camry is a fuel-efficient but more complex hybrid. Both the Camry and K5 offer AWD options, although their systems differ.

Safety and Driving Assistance

At this point, it is reasonable for any consumer to expect a brand-new vehicle to include the following safety features:

So, how do the Camry and K5 stack up? Let's take a look.

All 2025 Camry models come with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0), a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). In addition to the core TSS 3.0 features, blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic warning are standard on all trims. Higher trims also include front and rear parking assist with automatic braking and a surround-view camera.

Features such as adaptive cruise control (ACC) with stop-and-go capability, lane-centering assistance, and traffic-sign recognition are added. The Camry also features automatic braking and steering to assist drivers in navigating curves and maintaining safe distances.

In independent crash tests, the 2025 Camry received a top five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and earned the Top Safety Pick+ award for the 2025 calendar year from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The 2025 Kia K5 features a comprehensive ADAS suite through its Kia Drive Wise system. Along with essential driver-assistance features, the K5 offers options such as high-beam headlight assist, a driver monitoring system, intersection turn assistance, a safe-exit warning system, a rear-seat reminder system, and ACC. Higher trims also include a blind-spot warning system, surround-view camera, and rear parking collision-avoidance assist. Highway Driving Assist, a hands-on-the-wheel driving aid, is available on GT and GT-Line trims.

The 2025 Kia K5 received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA, including top scores in frontal, side, and rollover crash tests. According to IIHS testing, the K5 gets “Good” ratings in several categories, including the moderate overlap frontal and side-impact tests. However, it did not attain a 2025 Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ designation.

Advantage: Neither

Why? Both earn a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA. The K5 has an advantage in its ADAS features, but the Camry is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+.

Infotainment and Technology

The 2025 Toyota Camry offers a range of screen sizes and features, varying by trim level. The base models include an 8-inch touchscreen, while the XLE and XSE trims feature a 12.3-inch display. The larger screen is also available as an option on SE models. All systems support wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as a three-month trial of SiriusXM satellite radio. An optional nine-speaker JBL premium audio system is available on XLE and XSE trims.

Every 2025 Camry comes with Toyota Safety Connect and Service Connect at no extra charge for 10 years, offering emergency help, vehicle location tracking, and maintenance alerts. A 30-day or 3-gigabyte Wi-Fi Connect trial is also included as standard. Remote Connect, which provides features such as remote start, door locking and unlocking, and guest-driver monitoring, is available through a paid subscription.

Toyota offers three connected services tiers. The Go Anywhere Plan offers cloud-based navigation with live traffic updates, voice commands, and agent support. The Music Lover Plan offers unlimited in-car streaming via Apple Music and Amazon Music, while the Premium Plan combines both, providing full navigation and audio features in one package.

Kia equips the 2025 K5 with its next-generation infotainment system. Some trims offer an available 24-inch Panoramic Display that combines a digital gauge cluster and center touchscreen, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and voice recognition. All trims feature a 12.3-inch center-mounted touchscreen with these functions. All but the base LXS include integrated navigation and an available 12-speaker Bose premium audio system.

Kia Connect features are available across the entire lineup. The Lite plan, which is free for five years, is, as its name suggests, limited in features. However, it does include 911 emergency connect and maintenance reminders. Additional features such as remote engine start, car finder, vehicle status monitoring, geofencing, and more are available via subscription.

The Kia K5’s myQ Connected Garage lets drivers monitor and control their garage door right from the vehicle’s touchscreen. It also features geo-smart technology, which automatically opens or closes the garage door based on the vehicle’s proximity. The Smart Trunk opens automatically when the key fob is nearby.

Advantage: Kia K5

Why? Its larger base infotainment screen and simple operation give the K5 a slight edge.

Independent Expert Opinion

2025 Kia K5

Few models have had a more significant influence on the midsize sedan market than the Toyota Camry. The 2025 model builds on this legacy by sticking close to the proven formula that has kept it one of the best-selling cars in America. With its exclusive hybrid lineup, the Camry emphasizes fuel efficiency, comfort, and everyday usability. Its strengths include balanced handling, practical design, and a drivetrain tuned more for economy than excitement—traits that continue to appeal to a broad range of drivers.

The interior of the Camry has gradually evolved from purely functional to more refined. While earlier models prioritized utility over style, the latest cabin offers a cleaner, more modern appearance. Controls are logically placed, the infotainment system responds quickly, and the layout comfortably fits both passengers and cargo. Along with the option of AWD and competitive pricing, the Camry continues to attract buyers seeking reliability without sacrificing comfort or convenience.

Kia positions the K5 as a bold option in the midsize sedan segment, backing it with style and performance. Love it or not, the K5 offers buyers an aggressive design, a well-equipped interior, and performance that can out-accelerate some high-end German sport sedans.

While the K5 doesn't offer a hybrid version like the Camry, it presents a clear value proposition: modern style, numerous features, a competitive price, and a top-tier warranty. Most buyers will likely opt for the GT-Line or EX trims to enjoy sharp handling, a refined interior, and advanced technology without a turbo.

Globally, the K5 (whose predecessor was known as the Optima) has long been regarded as a stylish alternative to more conservative sedans. In the 2025 K5, Kia emphasizes that identity with a striking exterior and a high-tech interior. The controls are intuitive, and the new panoramic display gives the K5 a premium feel. With all it offers, the K5 is a strong contender among midsize sedans.

Advantage: Neither

Why? With its fuel-efficient and powerful hybrids, choosing the Camry might seem like a no-brainer, but the K5 offers many reasons to pick it instead.
