Equipped with a more efficient hybrid powertrain, a roomy cabin, and modern infotainment technology and safety features, the 2026 Jeep Cherokee resurrects the name of an iconic SUV.

Jeep offers the all-new 2026 Cherokee in four trim levels: base, Laredo, Limited, and Overland. This five-passenger midsize SUV is powered by a hybrid system that includes a turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine, two electric motors, and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Four-wheel drive (4WD) comes standard.

Last produced in 2023, the Cherokee returns in 2026 with bolder styling than its predecessor. As expected, it features several iconic Jeep design elements, including a seven-slot grille, boxy sides, and “Jerry Can” taillights. Other notable exterior elements include a front fascia with squared-off LED headlights and U-shaped daytime running lights.
Longer, taller, and wider than the most recent Cherokee, the all-new 2026 model is a full size larger, evolving from a compact to a midsize SUV. Jeep states that the new Cherokee features sharper edges and a more upright profile compared to the previous model.
Options include a dual-pane sunroof and a power liftgate that activates with the swipe of a foot.

The new Cherokee’s larger exterior also means more interior space. According to Jeep, the 2026 Cherokee features a larger cabin, additional interior storage, and 30 percent more cargo capacity (33.6 cubic feet behind the second-row seats) compared to the 2023 model. A rotary gear selector helps maximize the interior space further.
According to Jeep, when crafting the new Cherokee’s interior, designers concentrated on four main themes: active, playful, practical, and progressive. In doing so, the automaker intentionally made the 2026 Cherokee’s interior more welcoming while maintaining environmental friendliness, blending high-quality materials with synthetic leather and recycled components.
Black is the standard interior theme; buyers can choose a lighter-toned Arctic interior on Laredo, Limited, and Overland trim levels. Extra-cost creature comforts include ventilated front seats and heated rear seats.

Every new 2026 Cherokee is a hybrid offering good power and fuel economy. According to the automaker, it’s the first hybrid system for the Jeep brand and a first for parent company Stellantis in North America.
To create it, Jeep combines a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder gas engine with two electric motors and a 400-volt, 1.08-kilowatt-hour battery recharged via a regenerative braking system. The Cherokee hybrid delivers a combined 210 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque. A CVT is standard, as is 4WD. Towing capacity is 3,500 pounds.
According to Jeep, the Cherokee’s new hybrid system should deliver an estimated 37 mpg in combined driving—much higher than the last Cherokee, which the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rated at 24 mpg combined. With a full 13.7-gallon gas tank, Jeep says the 2026 Cherokee’s range will surpass 500 miles.
The new Cherokee’s Active Drive 1 4WD system comes standard with a rear-axle disconnect to improve efficiency. Additionally, four drive modes—Auto, Sport, Snow, and Sand/Mud—are available through the standard Selec-Terrain traction management system.
While it’s unlikely most Cherokees will tackle serious off-road trails (that’s better suited for the Wrangler), Jeep says the Cherokee offers best-in-class approach (19.6 degrees) and departure (29.4 degrees) angles, and the SUV has an 18.8-degree breakover angle. However, ground clearance measures a modest 8 inches.
The 2026 Jeep Cherokee base model features 17-inch wheels. The Limited trim includes 18-inch wheels, while the top-of-the-line Overland trim comes with 20-inch wheels. All season tires are standard across all 2026 Cherokee trims.

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee is equipped with the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) you’d expect in a modern vehicle. These include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, intersection turn assistance, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and a driver monitoring system. Active Driving Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane centering assistance, is also standard, along with rear parking assist sensors and rear automatic braking.
A full-color, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster faces the driver, while a 12.3-inch touchscreen serves as the gateway to the Cherokee’s Uconnect 5 infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring are included, and OTA updates keep the Uconnect 5 software up to date. Alexa Built-in is an available option, along with a premium audio system.
The standard Connect One suite of connected services provides 10 years of OTA updates, app-controlled vehicle functions, automatic SOS calls, and more. Customers can also upgrade to the Connect Wi-Fi Plus package, which offers unlimited data and additional features.
Available camera-based features include a digital rearview mirror, a front curb-view camera, and a surround-view camera.
The 2026 Jeep Cherokee enters the midsize SUV segment alongside familiar nameplates, including the Chevrolet Blazer, Honda Passport, three-row Hyundai Santa Fe, Nissan Murano, and Subaru Outback. Among these, the Santa Fe likely has the boldest styling, closely followed by the new-for-2026 Outback. Many would probably consider the Blazer and Passport the sportiest models, while the Murano shifted more upscale in 2025.
So, where does the all-new Cherokee fit in? It certainly has the bold, boxy styling that seems to be popular in today’s SUVs. Plus, with an estimated 37 combined mpg, it offers an appealing fuel economy. It’s also affordable, starting below $37,000 for the base trim. Still, there’s no guarantee buyers will flock to Jeep dealerships to buy a new Cherokee. Perhaps the best thing it has going for it is the Jeep badge. If that’s not enough, bring on the special editions!
