Nissan takes the heavily refreshed 2025 Murano upscale with a clean exterior design, a more inviting cabin, enhanced technology, and a refined powertrain, thus giving the popular crossover SUV a personality makeover.

Available in SV, SL, and Platinum trim levels, the 2025 Murano swaps out its venerable V6 engine for a new variable-compression turbocharged (VC-Turbo) four-cylinder. In addition, a conventional automatic replaces the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), sending power to the front or all four wheels.

With the 2025 restyle, the Murano continues to evolve into a decidedly less sporty-looking SUV, shifting toward a cleaner, more premium appearance. New lighting includes ultra-thin “Crystal Cube” LED headlights and “hidden” LED daytime running lights that highlight Nissan’s trademark V-motion grille.

Flared rear fenders toward the back lead to a sleek new power liftgate incorporating distinctive full-width LED lighting. Overall body width increases by more than 2.6 inches.

Twenty-inch wheels are standard on SV and SL trims, while the top Platinum grade has 21-inch wheels. Two-tone paint is a new option for 2025, and a panoramic moonroof is available on SL and Platinum trims.

2025 Nissan Murano Interior

As evidenced by the photo above, Nissan thoroughly updated the 2025 Murano’s interior. One of the key elements is what the automaker describes as the dashboard’s horizontal design theme.

Dual 12.3-inch displays depict the instrumentation and infotainment, respectively. A separate capacitive-touch panel below the dual display screens provides access to the SUV’s climate controls, and a push-button gear shifter frees up space on the center console. Nissan finishes the dashboard with “Murano Glass,” a unique material named after the Venetian glassworks that inspired the SUV’s name.

Drivers benefit from a new, flat-bottomed steering wheel that eases entry and exit and a seat with a broader range of lift and slide adjustments. In addition to providing them for front-seat occupants, Nissan installs its fatigue-fighting Zero Gravity seats in the back for the first time. Rear-seat occupants also get wider-opening doors and more knee room. Window shades are newly available for those in the back.

Synthetic leather seats are standard on SV and SL trims, while the Platinum gets semi-aniline quilted leather. All 2025 Murano SUVs have heated front seats, with the Platinum adding cooling and massage functions. Outboard rear-seat occupants in the Platinum also enjoy heated seats.

Cargo space measures 32.9 cubic feet behind the rear seats. That number increases to 63.5 cubic feet with the second-row seats lowered.

2025 Nissan Murano Specs

For the first time in the Murano’s history, a V6 engine won’t be under the hood. Instead, for 2025, the Murano has Nissan’s VC-Turbo four-cylinder that can adjust compression on the fly to maximize performance or fuel economy. Horsepower falls from 260 in the 2024 Murano to 241 in the new 2025 model, while torque rises from 240 to 260 pound-feet. Somewhat surprisingly, a hybrid option—conventional or plug-in—is unavailable.

Like the V6, the long-running CVT also exits stage left, replaced by a conventional nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and multiple drive modes. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard on the SV, with all-wheel drive (AWD) standard on the other two trims and available on the SV.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), fuel economy measures 23 mpg in combined driving with FWD or AWD—unchanged from the 2024 model. The Murano’s tow rating is 1,500 pounds.

2025 Nissan Murano Safety and Technology

On the safety front, the 2025 Murano comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360, the automaker’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) package. Nissan further equips the SUV with ProPilot Assist, which provides Level 2 autonomous driving by combining adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane-centering assistance. Opt for the SL or Platinum trim and you’ll get ProPilot Assist 1.1, which incorporates navigation data to adjust vehicle speed ahead of curves.

For 2025, buyers can upgrade to an enhanced surround-view camera with 3D capability, while the newly available Invisible Hood View allows you to “see” through the engine bay—helpful when parking or trying to avoid low-lying obstacles at low speeds. A passenger knee airbag is also new for 2025.

The central 12.3-inch touchscreen is the gateway to the Murano’s infotainment system, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Google Built-in is standard on SL and Platinum trims and includes Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play Store apps.

A six-speaker audio system is standard on the SV, while SL and Platinum trims get a 10-speaker Bose Premium Series audio system. All 2025 Muranos have two USB-C ports in front and back, a wireless phone charger in the center console, and benefit from active noise cancellation technology.

2025 Nissan Murano Competitors

The Nissan Murano counts among its chief rivals midsize SUVs like the Chevrolet Blazer, Honda Passport, Mazda CX-70, Toyota Crown Signia, and the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. The Murano certainly has its work cut out. A redesigned Passport is on the way for 2026, and the CX-70 and Crown Signia are all-new for 2025. The Atlas Cross Sport was also new for 2024. The conventionally powered Blazer is a bit older, but the new Blazer EV brings all-electric power—something the Murano doesn’t offer.

While the 2025 redesign brings notable changes to the Murano, the shift toward a more elegant, premium presentation marks a further departure from the SUV’s sporty beginnings. However, the lack of a hybrid option or any truly distinguishing characteristics might present a challenge for Nissan.
