The Crosstrek remains one of Subaru’s most popular models, and the 2026 update introduces a focused set of upgrades, including more standard power, the return of a hybrid option, and expanded tech and safety features across the lineup. While not a complete redesign, it enhances key areas for shoppers: performance, efficiency, tech, and safety. Pricing now starts at $28,415, including the destination charge, that is $1,300 more than the 2025 model.

The third-generation Crosstrek expands its lineup to include Base, Premium, Sport, Sport Hybrid, Limited, Limited Hybrid, and Wilderness trim levels. Starting in 2026, Subaru makes the 2.5-liter BOXER® engine standard across all trims. Previously available only on higher trims, this engine delivers 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and standard all-wheel drive (AWD).
Electrification returns with a next generation hybrid system co-developed with Toyota, combining an Atkins/Miller-cycle 2.5-liter boxer engine with dual electric motors and a lithium-ion battery. This new configuration increases the power to 194 hp. Every 2026 Crosstrek also features X-Mode with hill-descent control and a minimum ground clearance of 8.7 inches, preserving its light trail capability.
What makes Subaru’s hybrid models unique is how they combine electrical power with the AWD system. Instead of using an electric motor to drive the rear wheels, the hybrid system is mechanically connected to both the front and rear wheels, maintaining the familiar traction and off-road capabilities of the Crosstrek, but with a more efficient powertrain.
The Crosstrek’s cabin essentially carries over from 2025. Base models feature dual 7-inch touchscreens. Upgrade to the Premium trim, and you get the 11.6-inch infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring are standard on all trims. Hybrid Crosstreks get a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, while gas-only versions keep the traditional analog instrument panel.
Upholstery materials differ by trim level, beginning with cloth in lower trims, perforated leather in Limited models, and leather-like StarTex synthetic in Limited Hybrid and Wilderness Crosstreks.
Cargo space remains a strong point for the gas models, offering up to 20 cubic feet behind the second row and 54.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. Due to the hybrid system’s battery taking up space, Crosstrek Hybrid storage decreases slightly to 18.6 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 50.6 cubic feet when they are folded. Rear lift-over height across all powertrains is the same as in the Wilderness, that is 30.7 inches or 31.3 inches.
All 2026 Crosstrek crossovers come standard with EyeSight, Subaru’s suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistance, and adaptive cruise control. Crosstreks with the optional blind spot warning system and rear cross-traffic warning also gain automatic emergency steering.

Rivals for the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek include small crossover SUVs such as the Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, and Toyota Corolla Cross. The Crosstrek Hybrid also competes with the Corolla Cross Hybrid. With increased standard power, a comfortable interior, and the return of a hybrid powertrain, Subaru’s small SUV remains appealing to buyers seeking efficiency, a reliable AWD system, and light off-road capability without having to move up to a larger SUV.
