If you want a three-row SUV with ample room in the third row, full-size SUVs are not your only option. A couple of midsize SUVs shine in this area, and the 2026 Traverse is one of them. It offers 32.1 inches of third-row legroom. That is plenty of space for those in the back to stretch out and get comfortable, and it is impressive for this class. By comparison, the Mazda CX-90, a competing midsize SUV, has 30.4 inches of third-row legroom.
The Traverse also stands out for its cargo space. It offers 98 cubic feet behind its front seats, a figure Chevy claims is the best in its segment. Some competitors provide much less room for your belongings. For example, the Honda Pilot has a maximum of 87 cubic feet of cargo space, and the Hyundai Palisade has 86.7 cubic feet.
Chevy's SUV seats up to eight people and comes in four trim levels: LT, Z71, High Country, and RS. The LT rides on 18-inch wheels and includes standard features such as heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a wireless smartphone charger, and a six-speaker stereo. The Z71 adds red tow hooks and black exterior accents. The High Country builds on the LT with LED exterior lighting and 22-inch high-gloss black wheels, stepping up the luxury with amenities such as ventilated front seats, heated second-row outboard seats, and a Bose sound system. Lastly, the RS is the most expensive trim. It's equipped similarly to the High Country but adds black exterior accents for a sportier look.
All 2026 Traverse SUVs are powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission handles shifting. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, with all-wheel drive (AWD) available. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), FWD models achieve 22 mpg combined, while AWD models achieve 21 mpg combined.
Many drivers use midsize SUVs like the Traverse for family travel. Safety is a top priority for those drivers, and the Traverse delivers with a generous array of driver assistance features designed to help prevent accidents. All 2026 Traverse SUVs include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, and lane departure warning. Active blind spot warning is also standard, along with adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, and a surround view camera.
Midsize SUVs are popular with car buyers, and the segment includes stellar choices. The Kia Telluride is one of the most appealing and well-rounded models in the class. It offers nearly as much third-row legroom as the Traverse and is among the leaders in overall refinement. The Mazda CX-90 is excellent for drivers who value agile handling, but it has much less cargo space than the Traverse. The Honda Pilot and Toyota Grand Highlander are also capable picks in this segment.
