BMW's all-electric iX SUV looks like the future, showcasing the brand's latest technology. Having been on the market for nearly five years, the new 2026 model offers enhanced power and efficiency, and there’s a new entry-level xDrive45 model for under $80,000.
Every version of the refreshed 2026 BMW iX comes equipped with all-wheel drive. The new iX xDrive45 is the most affordable, starting at $76,325. It has 402 horsepower and, according to BMW's estimates, a range of 312 miles. That's almost as much range as the Tesla Model X. The midrange iX xDrive60 begins at $89,675 and offers a range of 340 miles. The performance-focused iX M70 xDrive delivers 650 hp and a range of 302 miles, costing $112,675. These prices factor in the destination charge.
BMW says the new iX will enter production soon, with deliveries happening in the second half of 2025.
The latest iX doesn't look too different from the previous model and retains much of the SUV’s distinctive, jagged exterior design. You can see subtle modifications in the shapes of the grille and headlights. The top-of-the-line iX M70 features an illuminated grille and the M Sport package, which includes design elements like extra air intakes, 22-inch M alloy wheels, and a rear diffuser.
With enhancements in various equipment packages, you can also upgrade the lower models to resemble the M70. Additional customization options include aerodynamic wheels in 20-, 21-, 22-, or 23-inch sizes and five new color choices, including Arctic Race Blue and Frozen Deep Grey.
Like the exterior, the 2026 iX’s interior remains essentially unchanged, dominated by a curved display and geometric elements. The M Sport package features new multifunction seats that provide improved back support and more adjustment options. The iX M70 xDrive brings several features from the M Sport package to lower-tier models. This includes the new seats, a leather steering wheel, gloss black trim, and M pedals.
For the 2026 model year, BMW adds the entry-level iX xDrive45, which has a 100.1-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery and 402 hp. It can accept charging rates up to 175 kilowatts (kW) at a DC fast-charging station, while other iX models can charge up to 195 kW.
All 2026 iX SUVs use BMW's latest eDrive technology and new, more efficient silicon carbide semiconductors that help transfer energy from the battery to the electric motor. BMW says the new models will have around 10 percent more driving range.
The 536-hp xDrive60 uses a 113.4-kWh battery; BMW says it will reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 124 mph. When using its launch-control function, the iX M70 xDrive's 112.8-kWh pack provides 650 hp and 811 pound-feet of torque, propelling it to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. According to BMW, it can reach a top speed of 155 mph when equipped with the optional performance tires. The M70 also features an adaptive air suspension system, rear-axle steering, and M Sport brakes with red-painted calipers. These upgrades are also available on the other iX models.
BMW says a tow hitch will be available in summer 2025, providing a maximum tow rating of 3,500 pounds.
BMW's curved display runs the automaker's latest operating system and acts as the iX's control center; it has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. When the vehicle is parked, you can play games on the curved display using your phone as a controller. A head-up display and augmented view for navigation are available, as is a 30-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound system.
BMW's Highway Assistant is a Level 2+ driver-assistance technology available on the iX. It allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel on limited highways at speeds of up to 85 mph, and the system can make automated lane changes by tracking eye movement. The iX's regenerative braking system uses traffic and navigation data to improve energy recuperation. However, you can override it to apply three other settings.
Owners can link up to five public charging accounts to their vehicle, allowing automatic payment processing when the SUV is connected to a charging station.
There are many choices if you're shopping for a high-end luxury electric SUV. The BMW iX has the tech, performance, and features to compete with electric SUVs over $100,000, like the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and GMC Hummer EV SUV. However, the iX's new entry model and impressive range help bring it down a notch when electrics like the Cadillac Lyriq, Rivian R1S, and Volvo EX90 dominate the market.
