Chevrolet recently introduced a new electric version of the Equinox, but it’s not yet kicking the gas model to the curb. Instead, the gas-powered Equinox gets a redesign for the 2025 model year, adding a new Activ trim level, updated infotainment and convenience technologies, and additional safety features.
The 2025 Equinox comes in three trims: LT, RS, and Activ. All models retain the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder from the previous-generation Equinox, but Chevy boots the old six-speed automatic in favor of a pair of new transmissions with what the automaker claims is improved responsiveness and performance.
Chevy says the new Equinox completes the automaker’s modernized crossover and SUV lineup, with all models receiving a complete overhaul or refresh within the last two years. Pricing and release date details for the 2025 Equinox will be available closer to its arrival later in 2024.
The new Equinox has more muscular styling with squared-off wheel openings and fender flares that bring its look closer in line with the Chevy Silverado truck line. It also borrows some elements from the redesigned 2024 Traverse, including the “shark fin” rear roof pillar accent. Full-LED exterior lighting is standard.
The 2025 Equinox is 2.3 inches wider than its predecessor, and wheel sizes range from 17 inches for the base LT trim to the optional 20-inch rollers for the sporty RS, the largest ever fitted to an Equinox.
Chevy uses fresh materials in the Equinox’s redesigned interior. The Equinox Activ offers a rugged yet upscale brown and black interior theme with Evotex artificial leather and sueded microfiber upholstery. The Equinox RS cabin conveys its sporty attitude with red and blue stitching on Evotex. You can also get artificial leather as an option for the base LT trim.
Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel come standard, and a panoramic sunroof is optional. The Equinox holds five people, or you can fold the rear bench seat down to give the SUV 63.5 cubic feet of maximum cargo space. There is a hidden storage space underneath the cargo floor, and a hands-free power liftgate called AutoSense is available.
Chevrolet kept the previous-generation Equinox’s turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine for 2025, which produces 175 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque (up to 203 lb-ft with the optional all-wheel-drive system). That engine left much to be desired in the old Equinox, so the bar is low for the 2025 model’s performance.
Front-wheel-drive variants get a continuously variable transmission (CVT), while AWD brings an eight-speed automatic and improves towing capacity to 1,500 pounds. The Equinox offers selectable drive modes for the first time, including Normal and Snow modes for front-drive models and an additional Off-Road mode for AWD variants.

Teen Driver is standard, and for 2025, Chevrolet makes it easier to monitor your child’s location and driving habits through the myChevrolet app.
The new Equinox gets a standard 11-inch digital instrumentation panel and an 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The infotainment system features Google Built-in, which brings Google Maps, Google Play Store, and Google Assistant into the Equinox. In addition, wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are also on board, along with OnStar connected services, including access to a 5G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
In my experience, Chevy’s Google Built-in infotainment systems are easy to use, making it less distracting to interact with the vehicle while driving.
The all-new 2025 Chevy Equinox will face many rivals in the Compact SUV segment. From established players like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 to newer entries like the Mazda CX-50, this vehicle class has no shortage of choice. Not only that, but some automakers offer hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains (Hyundai, Kia, and Toyota), while others are also entirely redesigned (2025 Subaru Forester).
