The Equinox EV is Chevy’s third electric vehicle (EV) announcement in recent months, joining the Silverado EV and Blazer EV in the new-vehicle hopper. Chevrolet claims excellent cargo space, a range of around 250 miles, and generous technology—all for about $30,000. General Motors (GM) can afford to set that astonishing price because of the efficiencies that come from sharing its Ultium platforms and tech with other EVs. The Equinox EV shares underpinnings with the Blazer EV and Cadillac Lyriq EV.

Chevrolet will sell the 2024 Equinox EV in five trim levels: 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, 2RS, and 3RS. The automaker said the Equinox EV would come standard with DC fast-charging capabilities and a load of standard safety gear. The electric SUV will go on sale late in 2023.

The Equinox EV comes in two primary flavors: LT and RS. The LT is the mainstream version, with still-sharp styling and sleek lines, but it’s less aggressive and sporty than the RS. Chevy equips 19-inch wheels as standard and offers 20- or 21-inch wheels, depending on the trim. The overall appearance is recognizable as a Chevy Equinox, but the move to electrification brought sharper lines, an all-new front fascia, and unique two-tone paint options. The LT is available with a two-tone white roof, and the RS is available with black.
Taking advantage of the SUV’s LED exterior lighting, Chevrolet equipped a standard approach animation. The headlights and taillights present unique patterns when the driver approaches the vehicle, and you can set the SUV’s liftgate to open when the key fob is nearby automatically.

The new Equinox EV brings space for five people and offers a familiar but tech-filled experience. Manually adjustable front seats are standard, and the SUV comes with cloth upholstery by default. Moving up to the 2LT trim brings many upgrades, including an eight-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. Equinox RS trims get a flat-bottom steering wheel and unique interior color schemes. The top LT and RS variants come with upscale features such as heated and ventilated seats, dual-zone climate controls, upgraded upholstery materials, and an available panoramic sunroof.
Storage space is different from the gas version. Where the 2022 Equinox gas model offers up to 63.9 cubic feet of space with the rear seat folded flat, the Equinox EV only offers a maximum of 57 cubic feet.
The Equinox EV comes standard with FWD and an electric motor making an estimated 210 horsepower and 242 pound-feet of torque. An available AWD electric drivetrain makes 290 hp and 346 pound-feet of torque.
An 11.5-kW Level 2 charging system comes standard, which Chevy says can add up to 34 miles of range per hour. The 3RS is available with a 19.2-kW Level 2 charging system that bumps the miles-per-hour-charged to 51. DC fast-charging capabilities are standard, adding 70 miles of range an hour at up to 150 kW.
Despite its bargain price, the Equinox EV brings a solid list of standard safety features and advanced driving-assistance technology. Chevrolet Safety Assist comes standard, and the automaker includes a handful of additional features, including:

The base Equinox 1LT has an 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an 11-inch digital driver information display. A 17.7-inch display becomes available starting with the 2LT trim. Owners can plan routes and charging locations using the MyChevy App. Chevy says GM’s Ultium Charge 360 offers a simpler charging experience and access to thousands of chargers across the United States and Canada.
We don’t yet know which infotainment interface the Equinox will bring. Chevy’s recent Infotainment 3 system offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, several USB input options, available wireless charging, and more. Additionally, Chevrolet will offer an HD surround-view camera system, a head-up display, and a rearview camera mirror. Super Cruise will also be available, offering hands-free driving on select highways across North America.
Chevrolet has carved a unique niche for the Equinox EV, assuming it can deliver the SUV and dealers don’t mark it up 500 percent along the way. The vehicle will compete internally against the Bolt EV/EUV and Blazer EV. Honda will have released the Prologue EV by then, and the Nissan Ariya will go on sale soon. Having said that, none of those EVs, outside of the Bolt, will come close to the $30,000 price tag Chevy set for the Equinox EV. It’s notoriously tricky to build cheap EVs in the current environment (see Tesla Model 3), but GM is likely large enough to find efficiencies to make it work.
