The new EV3 is Kia’s third all-electric SUV model in the U.S. lineup, joining the compact EV6 and the three-row, upper-midsize EV9. Available in five trim levels, Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT, the 2027 EV3 rides on Kia’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). E-GMP features include a flat floor, standard 800-volt fast charging capabilities, and available bidirectional power delivery. The latter feature enables the EV3 to power a variety of devices from its battery, which is helpful at the campsite or for powering small electronics.

Sharing a familial look with the EV6 and EV9, the EV3’s exterior design follows Kia’s Opposites United design language, incorporating features such as the automaker’s “Tiger’s Face,” short overhangs, hidden rear door handles, and a sloping roof. Overall, the EV3’s exterior design closely matches the larger EV9. GT-Line and GT trims receive sportier, more distinctive exterior styling. Additionally, a Nightfall appearance package with bold black or dark accents will be available on select trims.

Inside the two-row EV3, Kia’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) comes standard, featuring dual 12.3-inch displays that provide driver information and infotainment. There is also a 5-inch climate display, for a total of nearly 30 inches of display space, mirroring the EV9. Available features include a head-up display, a surround view camera, and ambient lighting. Additionally, the rear seat can recline up to 39 degrees, giving those in the back ample room to stretch out.

The EV3 Light comes standard with a 58.3-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery that powers the front wheels. All other trims feature a long-range 81.4-kWh battery. All-wheel drive (AWD) is available on the Wind and Land trims and is standard on GT-Line and GT. Horsepower ranges from 201 to 288, depending on the drivetrain configuration. The sporty GT trim is particularly quick, with a Kia-estimated zero-to-60-mph time of 5.4 seconds.

Kia estimates the EV3’s range at up to 220 miles with the smaller battery and up to 320 miles on long-range models. For charging, Kia says the EV3’s standard battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 29 minutes with a DC fast charger. The larger battery can reach the same level in about 31 minutes. A native NACS port makes recharging easy and convenient.

While the EV3 may be small, it does not skimp on advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The SUV’s standard and available ADAS includes intersection turn assistance, Highway Driving Assist 2, and rear automatic braking, among other features.

Kia says the new EV3 will be available in late 2026, with a starting price of $31,385, including the destination charge. The sporty GT with standard AWD starts at $47,385.

The list of small electric SUVs is, well, small. The Chevrolet Bolt and Nissan Leaf are likely the most direct EV3 competitors, with the Chevrolet Equinox EV a slightly larger alternative. Subjectively, the EV3’s cabin appears nicer, and it seems to have the Bolt and Leaf beat in terms of technology and interior space. If you want a similarly sized all-electric SUV with a little more brand cachet, you can step up to the Volvo EX30.

Historically, one of the knocks against electric vehicles (EVs) has been their price. It is not surprising, then, that Kia, a brand known for accessible pricing and exceptional value, would take the same approach when launching its small electric SUV. With a starting price just over $31,000, the EV3 offers acceptable range, sharp styling, and a wealth of standard equipment, making it likely to appeal to buyers of EVs and conventionally powered vehicles alike.
