As cars become more technologically advanced, the cabin interface—screens, software, and connectivity—continues to grow increasingly important to the overall driving experience. Kia's response is the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC). Introduced recently on models like the Kia EV9 flagship SUV, ccNC is Kia's move toward more integrated, intelligent, and immersive in-car infotainment systems.
The ccNC is Kia's new infotainment and cockpit system. It combines navigation, connectivity, displays, user interface, and over-the-air (OTA) updates into a single platform. It is part of the Kia Connect 2.0 connectivity suite. Its main components include:
The display layout seamlessly combines multiple screens. In the EV9, for example, the driver has two large 12.3-inch screens (instrument cluster and infotainment), along with a third, smaller dedicated screen for climate controls located between them. The result is a wide digital display that spans the dashboard and extends into the driver's line of sight.
The user interface and controls feature larger, more intuitive icons, fewer redundant features, swipe gestures, and voice commands, while also making fundamental controls easily accessible. The system is designed to reduce distractions.
Where applicable to electric-vehicle (EV) models like the EV9, the navigation and user interface include EV-specific features such as battery charge level, range estimator, charger locator, and route stops for charging. These features are incorporated into the navigation system.
Lastly, Kia provides OTA map, software, and select feature updates. The system connects via a cellular or embedded modem. ccNC uses data connections for real-time traffic information, point-of-interest searches, and remote features.
