Merging advanced technology, electric propulsion, increased space, and a luxury aesthetic, the all-new 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLB promises several strides forward in the compact luxury SUV segment when it hits the market in late 2026.

Mercedes-Benz is fully revamping its gateway SUV for 2027. When the all-new GLB arrives in late 2026, it will debut with two all-electric models: the GLB 250+ and the GLB 350 4Matic, both featuring the German automaker’s EQ technology. A gas-powered GLB hybrid will join the lineup later. The new design, electric vehicle (EV) architecture, redesigned cabin, and advanced technology mean the all-new GLB will offer more power, greater range, and smarter features.

The 2027 GLB features cleaner surfaces and a more planted stance compared to the previous GLB. The front grille remains upright to echo larger Mercedes SUVs, but Mercedes has leaned the windshield back, enhancing aerodynamics (GLB EVs have a drag coefficient of 0.28). Overall, the new GLB presents a slightly more athletic profile. Optional AMG Line trim and a Night package with black trim will also be available.

Thanks to the redesign, the new roofline, and the more space efficient standard panoramic sunroof, there is more headroom than before for both front- and second-row passengers. Mercedes has completely redesigned second row seating, offering more legroom, increased overall space, and better comfort, partly due to the vehicle's longer wheelbase.

The old GLB's third row was not very spacious, but Mercedes says the new GLB's optional third row can comfortably fit people up to 5 feet 6 inches tall. The German automaker also improved the Easy Entry feature, and the door openings should make it easier to get in and out of the third row.

The new GLB advances deeply into infotainment, and Mercedes appears to have thoughtfully layered the technology. The optional MBUX Superscreen spans across the front row as a single piece of glass housing three displays: a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, a 14-inch center touchscreen, and a second 14-inch screen in front of the passenger.

For everyday user experience, Mercedes' new operating system (MB.OS) integrates data and intelligence from both Google and Microsoft AI agents. It demonstrates dual-source AI powering a production infotainment system, aiming for more accurate results, more natural interactions, and fewer moments when the system seems to strain to understand your requests.

The MBUX Superscreen offers smartphone-style customization with configurable app grids that can be rearranged based on usage, file folders for better organization, and a one-touch Home button that resets everything to the "Zero Layer"—a simple view with the most relevant daily information.

Several colors and materials are also available for the interior. A new pearl-effect upholstery in a combination of black and Clean White Pearl complements trim options like open pore wood, natural fiber, brushed aluminum, and an anodized-look finish. Mercedes will also offer sound insulating dual-pane front side glass as an option.

Mercedes will introduce the 2027 GLB initially as two EVs: the GLB 250+ with EQ technology and the GLB 350 4Matic with EQ technology. They produce 268 horsepower and 349 hp, respectively. The GLB 350 4Matic features an additional motor on the front axle that activates only when needed for enhanced performance, traction, or both. Mercedes will add a gas hybrid version of the GLB to the lineup later.

Both GLB EQ models will draw energy from an 85-kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion battery and are built around Mercedes’ new 800-volt electrical architecture. This means faster charging, improved energy efficiency, and lower heat levels.

The battery can charge up to 320 kilowatts (kW) on an 800-volt charger. The new GLB will also have a built-in DC converter, enabling it to use 400-volt chargers without issues. A Tesla-style NACS charging port allows the new GLB to charge at Supercharger stations, and an adapter lets it charge from CCS-type plugs.

Mercedes uses a two-speed rear axle transmission in the GLB with EQ technology to balance performance and efficiency. The automaker claims zero-to-60-mph times of just 5.4 seconds for the GLB 350 4Matic and 7.3 seconds for the GLB 250+.

Down in the dirt, the 4Matic version's Terrain drive mode automatically adjusts steering, brakes, and drivetrain response for gravel and other rugged surfaces. It might not turn the GLB into a cliff-climbing G-Class, but it will enhance the small SUV’s light trail capability.

Mercedes hints at excellent long range capability from both new GLB EVs, such as driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas without stopping to recharge. Official range figures for the U.S. will be announced closer to launch.

Adaptive damping will be optional, but that also requires the larger 20-inch wheels available on the new GLB. An intermediate option of 19-inch wheels complements the standard 18-inch wheels.

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLB EQ MBUX Superscreen Infotainment System

The 2027 GLB operates on MB.OS, Mercedes’ new operating system that manages and controls every function of the vehicle, from essential systems like driver assistance and charging to more creative features like interior comfort and ambient lighting.

On the driver-assistance front, Mercedes offers a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) which are standard on the new GLB SUV. Optional systems include lane change assist, traffic sign recognition and traffic light detection, park assist, and Parking Assist 360.

One interesting feature of Parking Assist 360 is its use of images captured from cameras located around the SUV. It stitches those images together to create a "transparent hood" feature that digitally peels away the bottom of the GLB. This creates a view of the surface and obstacles when driving on rough terrain.

As part of the optional MBUX Entertainment package, the new GLB will feature a Burmester audio system with Dolby Atmos technology, powered by 16 speakers and 850 watts. A 10-stage "3D Sound" slider on the multimedia display will enhance the perception of space and depth from the sound source. The standard audio system now includes a center front speaker, which was absent in the previous GLB. It also offers a two-stage version of the above sound and signal processing.

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLB 250+ and GLB 350 4Matic combine luxury, advanced technology, and impressive electric range in the entry-level compact luxury SUV segment. The GLB EVs will compete with other small electric luxury SUVs such as the Genesis GV60, Tesla Model Y, and Volvo EX40.
