The 2026 4Runner is available with two-wheel drive and part-time and full-time four-wheel-drive (4WD) options, and it has a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds. According to Toyota, the estimated highway fuel economy is 26 mpg for gas models and 24 mpg for hybrid models.
The 4Runner continues to use a body-on-frame platform shared with the Tacoma, Tundra, Land Cruiser, and Sequoia. Its structure incorporates high-strength steel for the frame and aluminum in the upper body to boost rigidity and cut weight. Each SUV is equipped with a dedicated and purposeful suspension system. Inside, depending on the trim, the 4Runner features either an 8-inch or 14-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring. A digital key allows drivers to lock, unlock, and start the vehicle remotely from their compatible smartphone. An available credit card sized Card Key offers convenience in a compact, easy-to-carry form.
A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is standard, and higher trims include a 14-speaker JBL premium audio system along with a portable JBL Flex Bluetooth speaker with a dock in the dashboard. The hands-free power liftgate is now widely available and complements the standard power rear windows.
All 2026 4Runners come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes the typical advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) common in new vehicles today. Enhancements include improved lane recognition, motorcyclist detection, and an upgraded automatic emergency stop system that can bring the vehicle to a complete stop if the driver becomes unresponsive.
