The Tesla Model Y is a compact electric SUV that costs less than many rivals and receives several updates for 2026. It features front-end updates, including new headlamps, and the cabin gains improved materials, enhanced sound deadening, and an optional rear-seat touchscreen. Tesla also revises the trim lineup for this electric vehicle (EV).
For 2026, the Model Y Standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) joins the range as the new base model, and the Long Range RWD and Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) are now the Premium RWD and Premium AWD. Finally, Basic Autopilot is no longer available. This suite of driver assistance features was previously standard on all Model Y SUVs.
Pricing for the 2026 Tesla Model Y starts at $41,630, including destination.

Electric SUVs can be a significant investment. If you want to purchase one of these EVs but are concerned about cost, the Tesla Model Y merits consideration. It is one of the most affordable models in the segment, with a lower base price than electric SUVs like the Volkswagen ID.4.
Tesla offers the 2026 Model Y in four trim levels, starting with the base Standard RWD. As its name suggests, this trim sends power to the rear wheels. It features LED headlights and a hands-free liftgate that opens on approach. The cabin includes heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. You also get impressive technology features, including a 15.4-inch first-row touchscreen, two wireless smartphone chargers, and a seven-speaker stereo.
The Premium RWD is next and adds 19-inch wheels, LED light bars, and a panoramic glass roof. The cabin includes ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, and an upgraded stereo with 15 speakers and one subwoofer. The Premium AWD mirrors the previous trim but adds AWD.
Lastly, the Performance AWD adds vehicle-to-load capability, enabling you to use the SUV as a power source for tools and small appliances. This trim also includes 21-inch wheels and an upgraded suspension.
The Model Y comes standard with five-passenger seating. An optional third-row seat increases its passenger capacity to seven. That seat is available only with the Premium AWD trim.
Each of the 2026 Model Y's four trims has a distinct powertrain. Tesla does not list horsepower, but it claims the Standard RWD sprints from a standstill to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds. Premium RWD and AWD models complete the dash in 5.4 and 4.6 seconds, respectively, and the Performance AWD completes the run in just 3.3 seconds.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the 2026 Tesla Model Y offers up to 357 miles of range and achieves up to 138 MPGe in combined driving.
Standard driver aids include blind spot warning and lane keeping assistance. The Model Y is available with a Full Self Driving (Supervised) package that includes a semi-autonomous hands-on driver-assistance system.

With a competitive driving range and accessible pricing, the Model Y delivers substantial value in its segment. Although some consider Tesla a luxury brand, the Model Y costs less than compact electric luxury SUVs such as the Cadillac Optiq, Polestar 4, and Porsche Macan Electric. It also has a lower base price than rivals from mainstream brands like Volkswagen.
