Subaru's electric-vehicle (EV) lineup is growing with its second all-electric model, the Trailseeker. The Japanese automaker says it designed the new crossover SUV for everyday practicality and off-road escapades. According to Subaru, the Trailseeker is ideal for families and first-time EV buyers alike.
The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker includes a new electric propulsion system while retaining the brand's signature all-weather performance. With standard all-wheel drive (AWD) and a 74.7-kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion battery, Subaru estimates the Trailseeker will achieve 260 miles of range and offer up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity.
The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker is a two-row, five-seat crossover powered by two electric motors—one on each axle. The standard NACS-compatible port makes DC fast charging convenient and easily accessible. The Trailseeker comes standard with 8.3 inches of ground clearance, a dual-mode X-Mode system, a roof rack, and onboard battery preconditioning for optimized charging in all weather.
Subaru says the Trailseeker introduces a new sleek and futuristic design language for its EVs while staying true to the brand's rugged aesthetic. Compared to Subaru’s other EV model, the Solterra, the Trailseeker is more than six inches longer and nearly an inch taller, giving it more cargo space and a more upright, commanding silhouette. Standard raised roof rails, 8.3 inches of ground clearance, black plastic cladding, and a redesigned front bumper reinforce the Trailseeker's off-road identity.
The new Subaru EV lighting signature features a six-star illuminated logo, while redesigned headlights add to the Trailseeker’s modern and futuristic look. Wheel options include new 18- and 20-inch designs.
While Subaru doesn't typically offer the flashiest interiors, the Trailseeker looks to change that. The centerpiece of the SUV’s interior is a standard 14-inch infotainment screen housing entertainment, navigation, and climate controls, which are digital rather than physical buttons.
All 2026 Subaru Trailseeker trim levels include two wireless 15-watt phone chargers up front, while rear passengers get dual fast USB-C ports. The cabin's larger dimensions compared to the Solterra translate to improved legroom and cargo volume. Two cupholders, storage areas in and below the center console, available StarTex leatherette upholstery, and metallic finishes along the dashboard add to the convenience and utilitarian interior for which Subaru is known.
Dual electric motors power the 2026 Trailseeker, which combined produce an estimated 375 hp and deliver power to all four wheels through Subaru's Symmetrical AWD system. According to Subaru, the result is confident traction in all weather conditions. Additionally, Subaru claims a zero-to-60-mph time of 4.3 seconds.
A 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery provides the energy for the new Trailseeker, with Subaru estimating a driving range of 260 miles on a full charge. The Trailseeker supports 150-kW DC fast charging, allowing for rapid charging at compatible stations. The standard NACS charge port makes the Trailseeker compatible with a growing charging infrastructure, including Tesla's Supercharger network.
The Trailseeker includes Subaru's X-Mode system for off-roading, offering both Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud drive-mode settings. Additionally, Grip Control and Downhill Assist are standard, which Subaru says helps drivers maintain control of their vehicle on steep or slippery terrain.
Despite its off-road capability, Subaru says it tuned the Trailseeker for a smooth, composed ride on pavement, with suspension and chassis dynamics designed for everyday comfort.
All 2026 Trailseekers have the latest version of Subaru's EyeSight suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The Trailseeker's ADAS package includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking.
Subaru equips all versions of the new Trailseeker with a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen—their largest ever. The system features standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing seamless smartphone connectivity. Other standard tech includes voice-activated navigation, and a small digital driver display above the steering wheel.
The 2026 Subaru Trailseeker will compete in a fast-growing EV SUV segment that includes the Chevrolet Equinox EV, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Volkswagen ID.4. While these rivals offer comparable range, tech, and pricing, the Trailseeker stands out with standard AWD, enhanced off-road capability, expanded cargo space, and Subaru's commitment to driver and pedestrian safety.
