The most significant development for Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) maker VinFast for 2025 is the introduction of the VinFast VF 9, a three-row SUV initially supposed to launch for the 2024 model year. It joins the two-row, five-passenger VF 8 in the automaker’s U.S. lineup. The company says it plans to add other EV models to its lineup and begin U.S. production with a plant in North Carolina, although that plant is now slated to come online in 2028 rather than 2025, as announced previously.
Changes to the individual 2025 VinFast models are listed below alphabetically.
The VinFast VF 8 has several changes for the 2025 model year that improve it over the former VF 8 City Edition, which the automaker has discontinued. Most prominent is a battery upgrade, which results from a change of suppliers from SK to CATL. VinFast also improves the software, battery management system, and suspension.
After initial delays, the VF 9 midsize crossover SUV will be new to the U.S. market in 2025. With an overall length of 201.5 inches, the new electric SUV is about four inches longer than the competitive Kia EV9. However, its $69,800 starting price is significantly higher than the EV9’s.
With exterior style by Italian design firm Pininfarina, the VF 9 offers roomy accommodations for seven passengers and a surprising 3,968-pound towing capacity. Dual electric motors power the VF 9, providing all-wheel drive and offering 402 horsepower. VinFast says it will deliver 330 miles of range on a full charge and can recharge from 10 to 70 percent in as little as 35 minutes.
The VF 9 offers a broad range of advanced driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, traffic-sign recognition, and a surround-view camera.
