With a purposeful new design and some trail-ready upgrades, the 2027 Hyundai Tucson is pushing the brand's best-selling crossover SUV into more aggressive territory.

Hyundai refreshed the Tucson in 2025, and for 2027 it is getting a complete reboot focused on rugged good looks and performance. The design is the biggest talking point, leaving behind the outgoing model's sharp, angular look. This new one is bold, blocky, and decidedly futuristic.
It looks especially striking in person. While the outgoing Tucson still looked fresh, I could not stop looking at this new one. It is a big change, both literally and figuratively. The new Tucson is 2.4 inches longer, 0.8 inches taller, and 1.6 inches wider. That brings internal cargo space to 41.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats, compared with 38.7 cubic feet in the non-PHEV 2025 model.
Choose the new XRT Pro trim, and the vehicle is even taller, 1.2 inches, to be exact. It also features textured black plastic trim around the fenders and bumper. Additionally, that trim level comes with off-road-focused drive modes and all-terrain tires designed to match its aggressive looks.
The new Tucson has two powertrain options, starting with the base turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder that produces 184 horsepower and delivers 28 mpg combined on front-wheel-drive (FWD) models and 26 mpg on all-wheel drive (AWD) models. That is slightly less power than the 2026 Tucson but it maintains the current fuel economy.
Next up is the hybrid model. It produces 233 hp and offers up to 42 mpg in the FWD model, or 40 mpg in AWD. That is up by a couple of horsepower and 2 to 4 mpg over the current hybrid model. Hyundai is also planning a plug-in hybrid version, but for now only the base and conventional hybrid options are confirmed for the U.S. market.

The 2027 Tucson's interior is also completely retooled, featuring a new infotainment experience Hyundai calls Pleos Connect. It runs on either a 12.9-inch or 17-inch central touchscreen, depending on trim, with a slim 9.9-inch gauge cluster behind the wheel.
It includes an AI-powered onboard voice assistant, support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring, along with a pair of wireless smartphone chargers. At the new Tucson's media launch event, I tried an early version of Pleos Connect and was impressed by how well it worked. While tapping away at the SUV's unveiling, I found it quite easy to use. The AI assistant quickly found the closest place for good burritos, even reading out menu highlights.
Interior material quality is quite similar to the current Tucson, which is to say it is fair but not exceptional. More importantly, the space feels very roomy up front and out back. Rear seats are particularly spacious and easy to get into, thanks to doors that open nearly perpendicular to the side of the vehicle.

The 2027 Hyundai Tucson competes in the fiercely competitive compact crossover SUV segment, up against stalwarts such as the Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, and Toyota RAV4. All three have been recently refreshed or are brand new, but the Tucson is the newest and most aggressively styled. It will not be for everyone, but it will surely make a strong impression in the school drop-off lane.
