Nothing like the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger exists. It is an electric full-size crew-cab pickup truck with a V6 engine that does not propel the new Ram Ramcharger but creates mechanical energy that a generator converts into the electricity that powers the wheels.

The idea isn’t new. The BMW i3 with its optional range extender worked the same way, and the Chevrolet Volt was similar in concept, if not execution. Ram says there isn’t a direct mechanical linkage between the Ramcharger’s V6 and the wheels, whereas the Chevy Volt did have one for those rare occasions when you might be driving it uphill, both ways, with a load of passengers, in 100-degree heat.
The Ramcharger relieves its driver of range anxiety, which is the fear that the battery will run out of juice before finding a charging outlet. People frequently cite range anxiety as a reason they don’t want an electric vehicle (EV), so the Ramcharger definitively addresses that concern.
In addition, though you can plug in the Ramcharger to recharge its battery, this truck isn’t a traditional plug-in hybrid because the gas engine never directly powers the wheels. Instead, if the V6 activates, the Ramcharger’s 130-kilowatt generator converts the engine’s mechanical energy into electricity, which can power the truck across the country if that’s the plan.

Ram plans to offer the new Ramcharger as a crew-cab truck with a short cargo bed, and it will come in Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Limited, and Tungsten trim levels. The Tradesman is basic, while the Tungsten is luxurious. The others land in the middle.
The Ramcharger’s styling blends the themes of the refreshed 2025 Ram 1500 and the upcoming 2025 Ram REV electric truck. In the front, you won’t find a traditional steel bumper. Instead, the Ramcharger is what Ram calls a “fascia truck.”
Ram styles the Ramcharger to look wide, and the large grille features a RAM badge that illuminates and pulses to indicate the truck is charging. Premium lighting signatures are available, including grille bars that connect the RAM badge and the headlights and taillights extending into the tailgate on some trims.
The Ramcharger has a traditional cargo box designed for hauling sheets of plywood or drywall, and the company’s locking RamBox bed storage compartments are available.

The new 2025 Ramcharger benefits from the same interior upgrades found in the updated 2025 Ram 1500. They include enhancements to surface textures, color combinations, and materials to improve the truck’s overall sense of quality. Examples include premium leather, metal detailing, and carbon fiber trim in some versions of the truck.
Digital displays are the rule of the day. They can include a 12-inch digital instrumentation screen, up to a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch front passenger infotainment display, and a 10-inch head-up display. Most offer a degree of configurability and personalization.
Ram builds the Ramcharger on the same new STLA body-on-frame large electric-vehicle architecture used by the Ram REV, not the existing Ram 1500 platform.
It uses two electric drive modules (EDM), each combining a motor, gearbox, and an inverter. The front EDM produces 250 kW of power, while the rear EDM generates 238 kW. Together, they create an all-wheel-drive system, and the rear EDM features an electronically locking rear differential. Ram says you can disconnect the front EDM from the wheels to improve efficiency.
A 92-kWh battery pack feeds electricity to the EDMs. When fully charged, it offers an estimated 145 miles of driving range. When it gets low on charge, the Ramcharger’s 3.6-liter V6 engine starts up, and a 130-kW generator converts the mechanical power to electricity, fed through the battery pack to the EDMs.
Start with a full battery and then drain the 27-gallon fuel tank, and the Ramcharger should travel about 690 miles before you need to find gas or a charging station. Ram says that if you plug into a DC fast charger offering at least 145 kW of power, the Ramcharger adds 50 miles of electric range in 10 minutes.
The EDMs supply a total of 663 hp and 615 pound-feet of torque. The new Ramcharger tows 14,000 pounds, carries 2,625 pounds of payload, and, according to Ram, accelerates to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. By comparison, the best a 2024 Ram 1500 can do is 12,750 pounds of towing capacity and 2,300 pounds of payload capacity.
Oh, and by Ram’s own numbers, the Ramcharger accelerates faster to 60 mph than the 707-hp Ram TRX. That’s going to be embarrassing.
Drivers can choose between Electric+, E-Save, and Eco drive-system modes and select Normal or Max regenerative braking modes, which provides one-pedal driving capability. In addition, Auto, Sport, Tow, Snow, and Off-Road modes appropriately adjust the drive systems, accelerator response, regen braking level, suspension setting, and steering feel.
The Ram 1500 is renowned for its smooth ride and capable handling, thanks to a coil-sprung rear suspension design. The Ramcharger gets even better with an independent rear suspension and a standard active-leveling, height-adjustable air suspension. Settings include Entry/exit, Aero, Normal, Off-road 1, and Off-road 2.
Need power for something other than towing and hauling? Thanks to the 7.2-kW power panel in the cargo bed, you can use the Ramcharger to power a campsite, a job site, another EV, or even a home after a storm.
Ram will equip the new Ramcharger with the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) you expect to find on a modern vehicle. In addition, Highway Assist will be available.
Highway Assist is a hands-free, Level 2+ driving-assistance system. It pairs adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assistance and a driver monitoring system to provide hands-free driving capability on approved roads. It also includes a predictive curve slowing function.
Ram will offer Ramcharger buyers a Uconnect 5 infotainment system with a standard 12-inch or available 14.5-inch touchscreen display. As an option, you can outfit the truck with a new Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system.
The Ramcharger has the features you expect, like Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and connected services with access to a Wi-Fi hotspot. It also offers EV Pages technology. Using EV Pages, you can reference electric driving data related to power flow, battery level, charging level, and driving history. Also, a range impact feature shows how your driving is reducing or improving how far you can travel on electricity.
Other tech includes a configurable 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel with EV displays and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen for the front passenger. It provides the person riding in that seat access to device connectivity, the navigation system, vehicle cameras, and HDMI-sourced entertainment. The screen is invisible to the driver to prevent distraction.
Ram also says the Ramcharger will offer a rearview camera mirror, a smartphone-based digital key with a Near Field Communication smart card backup, a configurable 10-inch head-up display, and trailer hitching and steering systems.
In addition, an autonomous parallel and perpendicular parking assistance system will be available on the Ramcharger. It will find an appropriately sized parking space and steer, shift, accelerate, and brake the truck into it without driver assistance.
There is nothing else like the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, so it faces no direct competitors. The closest ones are hybrid versions of the Ford F-150 and Toyota Tundra and electric trucks such as the Chevrolet Silverado EV, Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Sierra EV, Rivian R1T, and Tesla Cybertruck.
