Hyundai's first dedicated electric-vehicle (EV) model, the Ioniq 5, is getting a refresh for 2025, including an adventure-ready XRT variant, access to Tesla's extensive Supercharger network, and increased battery capacity.
The updated Ioniq 5 comes in four trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited, and XRT. The updated 2025 lineup sees enhancements to battery performance, driving range, and technology. The Ioniq 5 is also the first model manufactured at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia, so expect it to be eligible for a $3,750 federal EV tax credit. Leases will continue to qualify for the full $7,500 credit. Rear-wheel (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) options are available.
For 2025, Hyundai gives the Ioniq 5 a minor facelift. Restyled front and rear bumpers show off the car's wide stance, and a new rear spoiler and more aerodynamic wheels help with handling and efficiency.
Hyundai also enhances the new XRT trim with rugged features. An exclusive updated front and rear fascia with etched digital camouflage cladding sets it apart from other Ioniq 5 versions. Standard black 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, higher ground clearance, and special suspension tuning make it ready to rip down dirt roads and climb mountains.
Hyundai refined the 2025 Ioniq 5's cabin with subtle but effective updates, focusing on enhanced convenience and the user experience rather than a complete redesign. While the overall look of the interior may seem familiar, Hyundai says the tweaks to the layout improve usability, safety, and comfort.
The redesigned HVAC system still lacks physical buttons, but Hyundai laid out the touchscreen controls in a much more user-friendly way. The new center console is more prominent, houses the wireless charging pad, and separates the driver's and passenger's sides.
The XRT trim features synthetic leather upholstery with a unique design and an exclusive black headliner. Other interior features include a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a new steering wheel design, and rear-seat heating.
The 2025 Ioniq 5 is available with either standard or long-range batteries, ranging from 58 to 84 kilowatt-hours (kWh). Hyundai claims that the AWD versions offer up to 280 miles of range depending on trim and wheel/tire size, and RWD models have a range of up to 310 miles.
The new XRT trim includes a dual-motor setup, a 23-millimeter suspension lift, a tuned suspension, and improved approach and departure angles of 19.8 and 30 degrees, respectively, for enhanced off-road performance.
The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a comprehensive suite of safety features. One of the standouts is the Remote Smart Parking Assist 2, available on the XRT and Limited trims. This innovative system allows you to park or maneuver the vehicle remotely using the key fob, offering added convenience in tight spaces or challenging parking situations.
The NACS charging port now gives drivers access to 17,000+ chargers on Tesla's Supercharger network without an adapter, doubling the size of the available DC fast-charging network.
Other tech upgrades include a cutting-edge 12.3-inch infotainment system featuring over-the-air updates and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Hyundai's Digital Key 2 Premium allows you to lock, unlock, and start your car using your phone, providing added convenience and connectivity.
As the electric SUV segment grows, the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 stands out with its off-road-ready XRT trim, ergonomic and comfortable interior, and NACS charging port. Competitors include the Chevrolet Bolt EUV, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Kia EV6, Nissan Ariya, Tesla Model Y, Toyota bZ4X, and Volkswagen ID.4.
