Kia does not make any substantial changes to the 2026 Sorento. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and X-Line SX Prestige trim levels receive minor exterior design tweaks, and all-wheel-drive (AWD) versions gain a Terrain drive mode for off-road surfaces. The 2026 Sorento is on sale now, with pricing starting at $33,635 for the gas-only model, $40,335 for the Sorento Hybrid, and $49,735 for the Sorento Plug-in Hybrid. All prices include the $1,445 destination charge.

Despite its lack of significant updates, the 2026 Sorento still stands out in two fundamental ways: its multiple powertrains and its relatively compact size.
First, a look at what is under the hood. Exclusive to the LX and S trims is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 191 horsepower and returns 25 or 26 mpg combined, depending on the drivetrain. All other gas-only trims have a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 281 hp and returns 23 mpg, regardless of drivetrain, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The 2026 Sorento Hybrid’s total system output is 227 hp, and it delivers the same fuel economy across both drivetrains: 37 mpg combined. The Sorento PHEV, meanwhile, features a substantially larger battery that must be plugged in to use its estimated 30 miles of all-electric range. The EPA’s “miles-per-gallon equivalent” rating, which shows the relative efficiency of plug-in hybrids, is 74 MPGe.
As for the Sorento’s distinctive size, it is larger than compact models like the Kia Sportage, which allows it to include a third row and offer more cargo space. At the same time, it is smaller than typical midsize three-row crossover SUV models, such as Kia’s Telluride.
The Sorento, therefore, sacrifices passenger and cargo space for superior fuel economy and maneuverability. For those who only use the third row occasionally and do not need much cargo space when doing so, it makes a lot of sense.
Not all Sorento SUVs look the same, though. They differ in a few key areas depending on the trim level you choose. Specifically, the X-Lines replace the bright body trim and flush-mounted roof rails of the standard trim levels with gloss black body trim, unique 20-inch wheels, and, on gas-only versions, raised roof rails. The X-Pro SX Prestige goes even further by adding 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.
Inside, the modern interior features cutting edge technology and strong build quality. The various SX versions even boast near-luxury features and finishes. Every 2026 Sorento includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring, as well as a digital instrument panel. The EX trim and higher include a wireless smartphone charger. The 2026 Sorento also comes with a comprehensive array of well executed safety technologies.

If a smaller three-row crossover is appealing, the best alternative is the Hyundai Santa Fe. It is similar to the Sorento in many ways, though its boxier body gives it greater cargo capacity. The Toyota Highlander is also on the smaller end of the spectrum and offers a hybrid powertrain.
