For the 2023 model year, Volvo's product line changes are mostly minor but mindful. A few changes affect multiple model lines and, in some cases, the entire product portfolio. For example, every Volvo car and SUV now gets updated shift logic for the standard 8-speed automatic transmission. And new trim level names—Core, Plus, and Ultimate—replace the outgoing Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription designations. Curiously, wireless phone charging is no longer available on any Volvo model.

On the electrification side, mild- and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains are now available across the model range. Additionally, Recharge PHEV models receive standard one-pedal driving as the Volvo brand pushes forward into the e-mobility space. New Tailored Wool Blend upholstery is unique to Volvo's Recharge models, as well.
Elsewhere, minor appearance upgrades and new standard feature content—such as the Google-based infotainment system—give the Swedish model lineup a fresher take. Still, there are no all-new or significantly redesigned Volvo offerings for 2023. Below are the updates for each 2023 Volvo model, listed alphabetically.
The Volvo C40 Recharge was all-new for the 2022 model year. For 2023, the all-electric compact SUV carries over with only slight changes. One-pedal driving is now standard. New interior materials are available, but the leather-free cabin continues to speak to Volvo's commitment to sustainability. The C40's contrasting black roof is no longer an option.
Four years after being completely redesigned, the compact S60 sedan arrives with minor changes inside and out. Exterior edits give the S60 a slightly more sophisticated look. The front end wears a revised grille, while the restyled rear fascia now conceals the exhaust tips. The S60 also enjoys new paint colors and updated wheel designs. Within, the cabin receives a redesigned overhead console and two new USB ports in the front row. On the tech side, the Google-based infotainment system is now standard equipment and includes the Google Play app store and enables over-the-air (OTA) software updates.
Two years after an exterior facelift and one year after meaningful under-the-hood enhancements, the S90 returns with a barrage of newly standard features. These include 19-inch wheels, a headlight cleaning system, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a surround-view camera system, full ambient lighting, and side and rear window power shades. New illuminated Volvo logos on the door sills give the S90 a more refined look and feel. Finally, a revised paint color palette provides the exterior with a fresher look.
For 2022, Volvo gutted the V60 wagon model range, discontinuing all variants except the rugged, all-wheel-drive (AWD) Cross Country model and the Recharge PHEV. For 2023, changes to the V60 are minor. Both V60 variants receive a revised front grille and a restyled rear fascia with hidden tailpipes. New wheels and paint enhance the exterior. Inside, Volvo's new Google-based infotainment system offers Google Maps navigation, Google Play app store access, voice controls, and OTA updates. An AWD hybrid drivetrain is now the sole offering for the V60 Cross Country, and the V60 Recharge receives standard one-pedal driving.
Since 2022, the V90 Cross Country has been the lone offering for this nameplate. For 2023, the slightly raised off-road wagon undergoes revisions similar to its S90 luxury sedan counterpart. Newly standard features include four-zone climate control, an air purifier, full ambient lighting, and a surround-view camera system. The 2023 V90 Cross Country also offers updated paint color selections.
Volvo's XC40 subcompact SUV mainly carries over for 2023 but receives several new features and design elements. Updates include a new grille, revised LED headlights, and new paint color options. Inside, the cabin gets a redesigned overhead console and standard two-zone climate control. The standard Google-based infotainment system includes Google Maps navigation, voice control, and OTA updates.
Like its gasoline-only XC40 counterpart, the all-electric Volvo XC40 Recharge receives a new front bumper, grille, headlights, and exterior colors. It also offers new wheel designs for a different look. The XC40 Recharge benefits from newly standard one-pedal driving.
The Volvo XC60 carries over into 2023 with minimal revisions, meaning updated exterior paint colors. In addition, the XC60 Recharge PHEV gets standard one-pedal driving. Also, Volvo increased the Recharge model's all-electric range from 19 miles to 36 miles late in the 2022 model year. Not only did this improve its practicality, but it also increased the available federal tax credit to the $7,500 maximum going into 2023.
For 2023, Volvo's XC90 flagship SUV replaces its conventional powertrains with two new AWD mild-hybrid systems. Output is either 247 or 295 horsepower. Aside from swapping out engines, the entire XC90 lineup, including the Recharge, receives a few new standard features, including an air purifier, two new front USB ports in the front row, and a Google-based infotainment system. A new Climate package on Core trims only adds a heated steering wheel, rear-seat heat, and a headlight cleaning system. A new Lounge package, available on the Ultimate trim, adds front-seat backrest massaging.
