The 2028 Genesis GV90 brings a new level of luxury, technology, and elegance to the full-size SUV segment, establishing itself as the Korean brand’s flagship model.
Genesis made a big splash at the 2024 New York Auto Show with the Neolun concept, which offered a glimpse of a full-size SUV. Apparently, the future is now, and the Neolun concept has become reality as the all-new Genesis GV90. The fully electric GV90 stays true to the concept’s elegant design and adds unique features such as coach doors, swiveling front seats, stylish 24-inch wheels, and a new iteration of the brand’s signature two-line lighting motif.
Genesis developed a new Electric Mobility Prime (EMP) platform specifically for the GV90, designed to deliver a spacious cabin and the quality performance and ride expected of a flagship SUV. Power comes from a new dual-motor drivetrain producing 657 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, making this system the most powerful in any Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) vehicle (Genesis is part of the HMG).
A dual limited slip differential distributes power to each wheel, which Genesis says improves traction and handling. According to the automaker, the multi-chamber air suspension keeps the ride composed even on rough surfaces, and rear-wheel steering improves maneuverability and driving dynamics.
Based on internal testing, Genesis expects the GV90 to have a range of about 310 miles from its 123.5-kilowatt-hour battery. Plug in to a 350-kilowatt DC fast charger, and the automaker says you will get from 10 to 80 percent charge in 22 minutes.
The cabin features a clean design, highlighted by the 23.6-inch touchscreen display mounted in the center of the dashboard. When parked, the screen can rise up, increasing its size to 24.6 inches so passengers can enjoy streaming videos or movies. Notably, there is no traditional gauge cluster. Instead, driver information appears on the central display or the available 25-inch head-up display.
Everything about the GV90’s cabin exudes elegance and luxury, befitting its role as the Genesis flagship. Materials such as leather, wool, cashmere, and wood adorn the interior, and custom indirect ambient lighting bathes the cabin in soft light. Premium leather trims the seats, and massage functions for front- and second-row passengers are among the best I have experienced. The standard Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D sound system with 25 speakers further enhances the cabin experience.
Genesis will offer the new GV90 in standard and Neolun trim levels, along with an exclusive Neolun First Edition, of which only 222 will be available worldwide. Seven-passenger seating is standard in the base trim, while the Neolun Executive Suite features a four-seat configuration. A step above everything else on the market, the Neolun is available with a wood-veneer floor and a radiant heating system inspired by traditional Korean underfloor heating. When parked, the front seats can swivel 180 degrees with the push of a button, creating a comfortable social space.
Further distinguishing the GV90 are the Neolun Arch Gate coach doors. The rear-hinged rear door and hidden B-pillar create a wide opening for easy access to the cabin, and the doors open and close with the push of a button. At the same time, high-strength steel beams and a hidden roll cage maintain body rigidity and safety, ensuring that occupants remain protected in the event of an accident.
The new Genesis GV90 brings extreme elegance and refinement to the full-size luxury SUV market, paired with a powerful, efficient, and quiet electric powertrain, all befitting the flagship of this luxury brand. While high-end electric vehicles like the Cadillac Vistiq, Lucid Gravity, and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV offer premium surroundings and impressive performance, the GV90 should stand out as something special among luxury SUVs. Look for the 2028 GV90 to arrive in U.S. showrooms in the first half of 2027.
