Mitsubishi's big news for 2023 is an all-new Outlander PHEV (plug-in hybrid) model, the electrified variant of the brand's flagship SUV. The new Outlander PHEV arrives with several technical upgrades and a greater all-electric range than the previous version. The rest of Mitsubishi's product line returns for 2023 with either minor updates or carryover models. All 2023 Mitsubishi SUV models now have standard LED headlights.
Also, for 2023, Mitsubishi evokes the Ralliart name, the automaker's iconic rally car and off-road racing sub-brand. To that end, all Mitsubishi models except the Mirage G4 will offer Ralliart special editions in early 2023, featuring appearance upgrades such as rally-inspired body effects and a unique paint scheme—white body color with a black roof.
Despite its relatively small product portfolio, Mitsubishi caters to a wide range of vehicle needs, from a small car to a 7-passenger SUV. Here's a closer look at the 2023 Mitsubishi model lineup.
After receiving a mild but noticeable refresh for 2022, the 2023 Eclipse Cross returns with an all-new 18-inch wheel design and color-keyed lower side trim on all SEL trim levels. All trims also receive new headlight and fog light designs. The 2023 Eclipse Cross now has Mitsubishi's S-AWC all-wheel-drive (AWD) system as standard equipment to deliver a more surefooted driving experience through adverse road conditions and uneven terrain. Lastly, a Ralliart-branded special-edition model will join the 2023 Eclipse Cross model range.
For 2023, the subcompact Mirage and Mirage G4 are carryover models except for the newly standard continuously variable transmission (CVT) across all trims. The swap to a CVT effectively removes the Mirage's 5-speed manual transmission option. Also, the Mirage will receive a Ralliart special edition (the Mirage G4 will not).
After enjoying a complete redesign for the 2022 model year, the Mitsubishi Outlander expands its lineup for 2023 with a new 40th Anniversary limited-edition model and a Ralliart special edition joining the ES, SE, and SEL trims. In addition, Mitsubishi brings back the Outlander Black Edition package, now available on both SE and SEL trims. Also, the automaker now equips SE models with standard electric folding mirrors, while the SEL trim gets a standard rear-door pull-up sunshade.
For 2023, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is all-new, taking on the gas-powered Outlander's bold, next-generation makeover it received for the 2022 model year. The 7-seat Outlander PHEV is one of only a few mainstream 3-row plug-in SUVs on the market.
From an electrification standpoint, the Outlander PHEV benefits from more powerful electric motors and a larger battery pack than the outgoing model. The new 20-kWh battery yields an estimated 47 miles of all-electric range—almost twice that of its predecessor, based on EPA estimates—but it may achieve more than that in real-world driving. A larger fuel tank furthers the overall driving range.
On the capability side, the Outlander now offers a standard dual-motor AWD system and seven driver-selectable drive modes. A Ralliart special-edition model is forthcoming.
The adventurous Outlander Sport returns for 2023 as a predominantly carryover model. However, Mitsubishi now outfits every Outlander Sport with standard All-Wheel Control (AWC) all-wheel drive. Also, a Ralliart limited-edition model will join the Outlander Sport model range.
