2026 BMW Z4 Final Edition Preview

Jim Resnick | Nov 26, 2025

To mark the end of the two-seat BMW Z4 roadster's production after 2026, the German luxury automaker will produce a limited run of 2026 Z4 Final Edition models equipped with the M40i engine. These special edition units will celebrate the roadster's three generations and 23-years of manufacturing history, which began in 2003. They will feature special paint, interior design details, and usually optional equipment, all at a suggested retail price of $78,675, including the destination charge.

Built with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission, all Final Edition Z4s will feature Frozen Black metallic paint from Individual, BMW's in-house custom shop. Shadowline black trim complements the body's paint, while gloss black accents the side mirror caps, grille, air intakes, and exhaust tips. BMW will offer a Moonlight Black soft top as the exclusive top color, and brake calipers will be painted red.

Inside, the Final Edition's M Sport seats feature a mix of Vernasca Leather and Alcantara suede with red stitching. That red stitching also extends to the instrument panel, center console, and door panels. Red piping surrounds the special black floor mats, and BMW M's tri-color theme adorns the seat belts. Custom door sill plates will read "Z4 FINAL EDITION."

BMW's M40i powertrain—a 382-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine—powers each Z4 Final Edition. Manual transmission Final Editions will have the special chassis tuning developed for the previous Handschalter Edition Z4, including auxiliary springs and a reinforced front anti-roll bar clamp. Additionally, the electronic shocks, electronic steering assist, traction control, and electronic differential control will all use special mapping and control logic.

All 2026 Z4 Final Editions will feature a staggered tire setup, with 255/35R19 tires in front and 285/30R20 tires at the rear, all mounted on dual-spoke BMW M Bicolor 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. Exterior lighting uses full LED elements on both the front and rear ends.

The Driving Assistance and Premium packages are standard in the Z4 Final Edition. This means every Final Edition includes lane keeping assistance, forward collision warning, blind spot warning, traffic sign recognition, a head-up display, and parking assistance with side protection. A Harman Kardon surround sound audio system is also standard.

The first BMW Z4, introduced in 2003, replaced the Z3 convertible, which debuted in America for the 1996 model year. BMW will manufacture all Z4 Final Edition roadsters in Graz, Austria, between February and April of 2026, marking the end of the modern era of BMW two-seat roadsters.
