Audi has redesigned the A5 for the 2025 model year, ushering in a new era for the automaker’s luxury car lineup. With the A4 luxury sedan and A4 Allroad wagon fading from the roster after the 2025 model year, the longer, taller, and wider 2025 Audi A5 fills the gap to provide the five-passenger seating of the outgoing A4 with the A5’s practical Sportback configuration and up to 36.6 cubic feet of cargo space.

Available in A5 and performance-tuned S5 variants, the new car offers a choice between turbocharged four-cylinder and V6 engines, each powering all four wheels through Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. Audi builds the new 2025 A5 on a new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) vehicle architecture developed for its internal combustion engine (ICE) models and upgrades the electronics to showcase the automaker’s new Digital Stage displays. The company also promises an improved driving experience.
According to Audi, the new A5 and S5 models will be on sale at dealerships by the summer of 2025, with the A5 starting at $48,995, including the destination charge.

With no more than a glance, you can identify the redesigned A5 as an Audi. The car is larger than before, with a softer, flowing, organic shape stretched across a longer wheelbase.
In front, a broader and flatter version of Audi’s traditional Singleframe grille leads the way with a bold three-dimensional honeycomb pattern. The more expensive versions of the new A5 offer eight customizable digital LED daytime running light signatures.
Audi’s signature fender blisters remain and are most prominent as they swell over the rear wheels. The new A5 also has flush door handles and a choice of 18, 19, and 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-season or summer performance tires.
As a Sportback, the new A5 has a rear hatch that opens wide to reveal a large trunk, and the back seats fold down to increase cargo capacity. When closed, the hatch incorporates a new lip spoiler.
Owners can customize the digital OLED taillight illumination to their preferences, and a new light strip runs the width of the car. The A5 also has a more prominent diffuser panel with functional rectangular exhaust outlets, giving it a sporty look.

The new A5 showcases what Audi calls its Digital Stage array of instrumentation and infotainment screens, and they dominate the car’s redesigned interior. The approach is one of four primary traits defining the cabin to create a high-quality, user-centric environment.
Dimensionally, the 2025 Audi A5 is larger than the car it replaces, and the automaker promises it will have a spacious interior. That’s good because the previous-generation A5 Sportback felt snug, especially in the cramped back seat.
Compared to the old A5 Sportback, the new one offers substantially more front headroom and shoulder room, an inch more rear legroom, and just over half an inch more rear shoulder room. So, the gains in space go primarily to the driver and front passenger. Compared to the old A4 sedan, the new A5 Sportback offers more leg and shoulder room and about the same headroom.
Cargo space increases a bit, from 21.8 cubic feet in the old A5 Sportback to 22.6 cubes in the new one. That’s a significant increase over the A4 sedan’s conventional trunk, though, which could handle 12 cu-ft of cargo. Maximum volume in the new A5 measures 36.6 cu-ft.

In the Audi A5, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine supplies 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The more powerful 2025 Audi S5 has a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine providing 362 hp and 406 lb-ft. Both require premium fuel and power all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) and a Quattro AWD system. Comfort, Dynamic, and Balanced driving modes adjust the car’s demeanor on the road.
To enhance the A5’s driving dynamics, Audi has reworked the steering and front suspension for improved feel, precision, and responsiveness. Rear suspension modifications and brake-based torque vectoring should also polish the car’s cornering dynamics.
Upgrading to the Audi S5 unlocks more than just a significant power boost. It has a sport-tuned suspension with a 20mm lower ride height, standard summer tires, and exclusive optional 20-inch wheels. An adaptive sport suspension is available, and Audi says it offers greater distinction between the three driving modes than before.

With the redesigned 2025 A5, Audi introduces a new digital electronic architecture to support the Digital Stage displays and other technologies.
Every A5 has an Audi Multi Media Interface (MMI) panoramic display housing the 11.9-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit instrumentation and 14.5-inch center infotainment touchscreen. In addition, a 10.9-inch display is available for the front seat passenger, a trend in many luxury cars today. Two optional Bang & Olufsen sound systems are available, one offering 20 speakers, including four in the head restraints.
Audi Assistant technology is standard, an AI-powered digital voice assistant that understands natural language commands. Adding to the digital experience, an optional LED light strip across the top of the dashboard can visually communicate vehicle information. For example, it shows when you’ve activated the turn signals. An updated and configurable head-up display is also available, with expanded data and a display area that’s 85% larger than before.
As of this writing, Audi hasn’t fully defined the new A5’s safety features. However, the automaker confirms it will offer an available Adaptive Cruise Assist system. It combines an adaptive cruise control system with lane-centering assistance to ease travel on highways. In addition, a surround-view camera and an autonomous Park Assist Plus system are available.
Thanks to its Sportback design, the new A5 is a rarity, offering the interior room and convenience of a compact luxury sedan with a hatchback design providing some of the utility you get with a crossover SUV or wagon.
As such, it has a single direct gas-powered rival: the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. Electric alternatives include the BMW i4, Genesis GV60, and Polestar 2. What’s missing here is a traditional trunk. If that’s your preference, the list of alternatives expands to include the BMW 3 Series, Lexus IS, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and others.
