The new 2024 Ram ProMaster EV is the brand’s first fully electric vehicle, arriving to compete with the Ford E-Transit and Mercedes-Benz eSprinter in the commercial van space. With a range of 162 miles in city driving, the new van will tackle urban delivery routes and last-mile logistics, filling the gap between major shipping systems and recipients on limited routes.

Ram didn’t reinvent the wheel with the ProMaster EV, as it rides on the same platform as its gas-powered counterpart, offering the same interior cargo space and height.
The ProMaster EV is available in two configurations, but unlike the Ford E-Transit, it doesn’t come in the cutaway or chassis-cab body styles that enable customization options. Instead, the ProMaster EV comes in “delivery” spec to start, with a non-delivery/cargo variant arriving later.
Ram also equips the ProMaster EV with a range of telematics and tracking options to help fleets integrate the van into their operations, and several new connected services bring updates and app functionality.

The Ram ProMaster EV is a full-size commercial van, so the exterior styling elements are pretty standard as vehicles in the class go.
The ProMaster’s front end hasn’t changed with the transition to electric propulsion, so the EV retains the gas model’s low grille, angled windshield, and plenty of black plastic body cladding. Ram says the standard LED headlights and fog lights deliver 50 percent more lighting range than the gas-powered ProMaster.
Two lengths are available, depending on the configuration, including 12- and 13-foot options.

Ram might not offer a chassis-cab configuration for the ProMaster EV, but the two available body styles bring several options for interior customization. Ram said customers can set the van up for nearly any commercial need, with storage, organization, and other upgrades available.
The ProMaster EV’s cargo hold can swallow 524 cubic feet of gear, and the 86-inch standard roof height allows for a range of upfits and options. The rear has electrical connectors, and Ram packages most vehicle systems ahead of the cargo area to make the van more flexible.
The ProMaster EV also offers a best-in-class load floor height, and its cargo walls are nearly vertical to open more space and storage options.

Ram ripped out the standard van’s V6 engine in favor of a single electric motor and a centrally-located battery pack. The 200-kW motor produces 268 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque, competitive with the gas model’s 276 hp and 250 lb-ft.
Like the gas ProMaster, the EV is front-wheel drive, but the electric model’s payload numbers are slightly lower. It offers 3,020 pounds of payload in the cargo configuration and 2,030 with the delivery model, compared with up to 4,680 pounds in the gas variant.
The ProMaster EV can use Level 3 DC fast chargers at 50, 85, 125, and 150 kW speeds. Ram offers a Level 2, 11-kW wall box charger for charging at home or a business. The van’s charge port illuminates and it makes an audible alert when charging has started successfully.

Ram upgraded the ProMaster’s safety features with the move to electric, giving it newly available front and rear parking sensors with full stop capability. In addition, a new “white noise” backup alarm joins the standard “beep-beep” backup alarm.
Other standard features include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, a crosswind assistance system, a drowsy driver monitoring system, and a backup camera with direction gridlines. Ram offers lane-keeping assistance, a rear camera mirror that improves exterior visibility, and a surround-view camera system as options.
The van is also available with Active Drive Assist, a Level 2 semi-autonomous advanced driving assistance system (ADAS) that pairs adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assistance.
Ram equips the ProMaster EV with a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5 infotainment software and functionality. Ram says the interface is five times faster than its predecessor.
The new Uconnect 5 system brings a long list of desirable features, such as dual-device Bluetooth connections, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa in-vehicle assistance, and upgraded SiriusXM. Over-the-air updates keep the system current, and the ProMaster EV can provide directions to the nearest charging station when the battery gets low. Wireless smartphone charging and a Wi-Fi hotspot are also available.
Additionally, the system has built-in telematics functions that allow fleet managers to track the van’s location, evaluate efficiency, monitor driving behavior, and more. A Secure Park system prevents thieves from shifting the van out of Park unless the key fob is present.
The ProMaster EV has a couple of direct competitors. The Ford E-Transit offers functionality and capability similar to its best-selling gas counterpart. It’s also available in cutaway and chassis-cab body styles that the Ram doesn’t match. The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter is also close on capability, but the German automaker offers a range of comfort and convenience options the Ram doesn’t.
