The Chevrolet Tahoe is a full-size, three-row SUV with a standard V8 engine and available diesel power. Built on the same platform as the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup, the Tahoe benefits from its stout underpinnings, delivering confident off-road performance and robust towing capacity. Mechanically unchanged for 2026, it adds a new exterior color and updated wheel and trim options.

The Tahoe has been part of Chevrolet's lineup for over three decades. The venerable people mover and its long-wheelbase sibling, the Suburban, both received updates for the 2025 model year. Along with a new front fascia and a refreshed interior featuring a larger 17.7-inch infotainment screen, the Tahoe added a more powerful diesel engine option and suspension improvements to deliver a smoother ride.
As expected, the 2026 updates are minor. The luxurious Premier and High Country trims gain a Polar White paint option, while the mid-range RST trim receives a blacked-out appearance package. Other notable updates include an additional 22-inch wheel choice and a keycard that replaces a conventional fob. To increase cargo capacity, a third-row seat delete is also available.
The Tahoe's standard engine is a 5.3-liter V8 producing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque; a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp and 460 pound-feet is available. The optional diesel produces 305 hp and 495 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard, and four-wheel drive (4WD) is available.
Chevrolet offers the 2026 Tahoe in six trim levels: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. The entry-level LS trim starts at about $66,000, while the range-topping High Country commands just north of $86,000. Chevrolet's Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance technology is available on all trims except the LS.
None of the 2026 Tahoe trims is sparsely equipped, but most buyers will likely gravitate toward the mid-range RST and Z71 versions. In addition to standard 4WD, the RST features 22-inch wheels, a distinctive grille, black exterior trim, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a power liftgate. The Z71 is more off-road focused. It comes with a revised front bumper to improve the approach angle, red tow hooks, a front skid plate, and 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires.
When equipped with Chevrolet's Max Trailering package, the 2026 Tahoe can tow up to 8,400 pounds. Notably, that rating applies to the base 5.3-liter V8, not the diesel. Every 2026 Tahoe comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
In addition to cooling system upgrades, the Max Trailering package includes technology to reduce towing stress, including Trailer Tire Health, Boat Ramp Assist, and Trailer Navigation, which helps ensure that programmed drive routes are compatible with the trailer.
All 2026 Tahoe SUVs come standard with Chevy Safety Assist, which includes automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Additional safety features are available.

Buyers considering the Tahoe may also look to its corporate cousin, the GMC Yukon, which is mechanically similar but offers a slightly more upscale package.
The Ford Expedition also competes strongly with the Tahoe. While it does not offer a diesel option, both of its turbocharged V6s deliver more power than the Tahoe's V8s. Another strong rival is the Toyota Sequoia, which offers both hybrid power and a higher tow rating than the Tahoe’s.
