Hyundai is in the midst of a hot streak with its crossover lineup. The Palisade debuted in 2019 as an upscale, 3-row family hauler with posh styling and a premium interior, while the compact Tucson just debuted as an all-new and tech-forward crossover for the 2022 model year. Hyundai gave its first SUV, the Santa Fe, a mild overhaul for the 2021 model year and is now adding a new adventure-themed trim level for 2022. The Hyundai Santa Fe XRT picks up exclusive wheels, darkened exterior trim, and an upgraded options package.
Hyundai says the XRT trim adds a rugged look for people wanting to stand out from the crowd. Though it looks meaner than the standard Santa Fe, the XRT is mechanically no different from its mainstream counterpart. The appearance upgrades include black lower-body cladding, front and rear skid plates, and blacked-out exterior trim. Beyond appearance changes, the SRT trim adds an available convenience package, including a hands-free liftgate, dual-zone climate control, a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen, and more.
A new Santa Fe Hybrid debuted for the 2022 model year, but Hyundai only offers the XRT trim with a standard gas engine; that means a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 191 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and either front- (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

As it does with its other models, Hyundai covers every Santa Fe XRT with a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile new-vehicle limited warranty. The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe XRT is hitting dealers’ lots now. The FWD model starts at $33,485, and the AWD version begins at $35,185. Both prices include a $1,185 destination charge.
