Toyota Jan’s role almost went to Stephanie Courtney, as she had auditioned for the position. Many people credit Stephanie Courtney as a savior for the brand Progressive, the auto insurance company. Before “Flo” joined hands with the brand, Progressive only had a 4% market share, but it’s grown considerably since then.
Coppock gave an excellent competition to Courtney and ended up bagging the role as Toyota Jan. We are glad she did.
Toyota Jan is an absolute icon. Her ads span everything from astronaut puns to a witty explanation of how to access the Toyota Service Centres; she has more than one feather in her hat! She has done several mind-blowing commercials, leaving people needing clarification about which one is her best commercial.
Toyota Jan has that warm smile, and that gorgeous red dress is almost a trademark in Toyota commercials. She can keep the audience engaged and interested while conveying the appropriate message. She has been instrumental in taking Toyota and herself to tremendous success.
Laurel's been in a few movies, like Crazy, Stupid, Love, and Comedy Jam. She's appeared on TV shows like Modern Family and 2 Broke Girls. She's also a member of The Groundlings in Los Angeles. This legendary improv comedy group spawned the likes of Phil Hartman, Lisa Kudrow, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Jon Lovitz, and Paul Reubens. She has about 23 acting credits since she started working in 2007.
Jan’s best work with Toyota doesn’t stop at one commercial. She has been with Toyota for over a decade now. The Toyotathon and math commercial where she advertises the red Camry, the 2016 Christmas ad, or her latest summer ad featuring Highlander and RVR4 all say that Toyota Jan is still doing some of the best commercials for Toyota.
Yes, Laurel Coppock is still Toyota Jan. She did a couple of commercials during the pandemic and will be back for more as we step onto the other side of the pandemic, and life is just starting to come back to normalcy.
When the audience spotted a baby bump in the ads, everyone began speculating if the baby bump was faked for the commercial or was real. Toyota Jan was pregnant with her first baby during the filming. Toyota not only gave a green signal to her work in the commercials while pregnant but also worked her pregnancy into the commercials. It’s heartwarming to see companies being welcoming to the various stages in a person the second time around in 2018 when Toyota Jan flaunted her baby bump in the commercials again. Jan's life gives more women the courage to be themselves and do good work.
She might be one of the select few people who have been the face of any brand for as long as she has. It is difficult for brands to have a recurring look and get the message across. However, when it comes to Toyota Jan, she lights up the screen every time she appears and inspires a lot of smiles.
However, it is interesting to note that Laurel almost gave up on advertisements before auditioning for Toyota. She was tired of not landing any gigs and getting tired of the letdown she was facing; she had almost given up. If she hadn’t auditioned for Toyota that day, our world would be very different with a different Toyota Jan. All Jan fans would agree.
