The Mazda product line gets a little smaller for 2024 with the discontinuation of the MX-30, a low-selling electric crossover the automaker will no longer offer in the United States. However, one significant addition to the carmaker’s portfolio is the introduction of the all-new CX-90 3-row crossover. It replaces the longstanding CX-9 as the brand’s newest flagship utility.

Overall, the Mazda brand remains robust for 2024, with the Mazda3, CX-30, and CX-5 models each receiving a new Carbon Turbo trim package, blending premium features with turbocharged performance. Additionally, the CX-50 returns with minor mechanical enhancements. Lastly, there’s anticipation of a complete redesign for the Mazda MX-5 Miata, but as of this writing, Mazda hasn’t released or confirmed any details.
The Mazda3 sedan and hatchback return as carryover models for 2024. The longstanding and popular compact receives two new trim levels—Carbon Turbo and Select Sport—as well as enhanced connectivity and user technology.
The Carbon Turbo trim blends turbocharged performance with bespoke styling. Powered by a 256-horsepower, turbocharged, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, this special package catches the eye with Zircon Sand Metallic paint, 18-inch black metallic finish wheels, and gloss black door mirrors. Mazda wraps the black interior Terracotta leatherette upholstery with red stitching.
All 2024 Mazda3 Turbo models now offer a larger 10.25-inch infotainment display with touchscreen functionality and newly wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility. Mazda also includes Wireless Qi phone charging.
The new Mazda3 2.5 S Select Sport trim package has convenience features such as advanced keyless entry, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Aesthetic upgrades include black 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and black leatherette seats.
The CX-30 crossover is a carryover model for 2024. The only addition is a new Carbon Turbo trim that blends performance with unique appearance features, including Zircon Sand exterior paint, black aluminum alloy wheels, and black gloss trim. Within, the black and brown color scheme continues with Terracotta-colored leather upholstery and black suede surfaces.
The Mazda CX-5 compact crossover is a carryover model for 2024. Minor changes include a new trim package and a fuel-economy bump. The new Carbon Turbo trim blends unique styling and turbocharged performance thanks to a 2.5-liter turbo engine delivering 256 hp and 320 pound-feet of torque. Visual highlights include an exclusive Zircon Sand Metallic or Rhodium White exterior paint color with black finishes on the lower fascia, wheel arches, rear wing, and 19-inch black aluminum alloy wheels. Mazda defines the cabin with Terracotta leather-trimmed seats, black suede inserts, and Terracotta stitching across the door trim, armrest, and center console. A black headliner finishes off the interior.
On the efficiency front, the CX-5 2.5 S models featuring the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine benefit from new i-Stop technology. This inclusion improves combined fuel economy from 26 mpg to 28 mpg.
The CX-50 is the more outdoorsy and adventurous stablemate to the CX-5 crossover. The former provides a balance of surefooted on-road driving dynamics with off-road capability. Aside from some mechanical enhancements and tech features, the CX-50 is a carryover for 2024.
Suspension and steering tweaks include new dampers and a recalibrated electric power-assist steering (EPAS) system. According to Mazda, the result is a better ride and handling experience for drivers and passengers alike. On the tech feature front, the 12-speaker Bose stereo and wireless smartphone charging pad are now standard on more trims, starting with the mid-level Premium and up.
The all-new 2024 CX-90 crossover replaces the well-known and longstanding CX-9 as the brand’s flagship. But make no mistake, the CX-90 is a departure from the CX-9, bringing a more engaging design and comprehensive feature content. It is also larger in every dimension—length, width, height, and wheelbase. The 3-row crossover is available with three new e-Skyactiv powertrain options—CX-90 PHEV, CX-90 3.3 Turbo, and CX-90 3.3 Turbo S—and 11 trim packages to meet varying customer needs from entry-level to near-luxury.
The CX-90 will be Mazda’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) for the North American market as the brand lays the groundwork for its expansion into electrification. The PHEV can operate as a traditional hybrid, where the internal combustion engine powers the car and regenerative braking recaptures energy lost in acceleration. Alternatively, you can plug it into a charging station for all-electric driving on shorter trips.
The CX-90 also offers a pair of powerful new turbocharged, 3.3-liter inline 6-cylinder engines. Turbo models produce 280 hp and 332 pound-feet of torque, while the Turbo S brings an even more robust 340 hp and 369 pound-feet of torque. Mazda pairs all CX-90 powertrains with its new 8-speed automatic transmission.
All CX-90s include Mazda Intelligent Drive Select with Sport and Off-Road modes and a feature called Kinematic Posture Control, which the automaker says suppresses body lift in tight corners and enhances grip. In addition, all-wheel drive is standard.
On the safety front, the CX-90 offers a broad range of advanced driver assistance systems under its i-Activsense suite, including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, lane-keeping assistance, rear cross-traffic warning, and new rear-seat reminder and safe-exit systems.
As of this writing, Mazda has yet to release official information for the 2024 MX-5 Miata, but an all-new iteration is said to be on the brink.
