Nissan follows up a busy 2022 that saw the launch of the redesigned Frontier midsize pickup and 3-row Pathfinder midsize crossover SUV with two more all-new model introductions, and they couldn't be more different. The all-electric Nissan Ariya is a 5-passenger compact crossover aimed at those looking to conserve fuel while transporting family and friends. Meanwhile, the all-new Nissan Z 2-seat sports car targets a more performance-minded customer base.
In other 2023 Nissan product news, the Japanese automaker discontinues the Rogue Sport, leaving a sizeable gap between the entry-level Kicks and the compact Rogue in the brand's extensive SUV lineup. The popular Altima midsize sedan gets a nose job for 2023 with a refreshed front fascia, updated V-motion grille, and a new brand logo. Buyers have four new alloy wheel designs from which to choose, and two new exterior paint colors debut: Gray Sky Pearl and Garnett Pearl Metallic. Inside, SL and SR VC-Turbo trims get a new 12.3-inch infotainment display, and the sporty SR trim receives a couple of new interior design touches.
After some initial delays, the Nissan Ariya crossover SUV finally arrives for the 2023 model year, becoming the second all-electric model in the Japanese automaker's U.S. lineup. With a choice of standard- or extended-range batteries, the new Ariya offers an EPA-estimated driving range of up to 304 miles. Initially available with only front-wheel drive (FWD), the electric vehicle (EV) will offer Nissan's innovative e-Force all-wheel-drive (AWD) system later in the model year.
Advanced driver-assistance technology on the new Ariya includes standard Nissan Safety Shield 360 and ProPilot Assist with Navi-link (ProPilot Assist 2.0 is optional). The Ariya also comes with a 12.3-inch driver information display. Regarding infotainment, there's a 12.3-inch center touchscreen display, wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto and Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM satellite radio with 360L. The available ProPilot Park system takes over acceleration, braking, steering, and gear shifting to help guide the Ariya into a parking space.
Pricing for the all-new 2023 Nissan Ariya starts at $44,485, including the $1,295 destination charge.
The full-size Nissan Armada SUV sees only minor equipment changes for 2023. Nissan continues to offer it in S, SV, SL, and Platinum trim levels, in both 2-wheel drive (2WD) and 4-wheel drive (4WD). The SV trim adds standard remote engine start, LED fog lights, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with a universal garage door opener. The SL trim gets a standard heated steering wheel. Also, Amazon Alexa built-in is now standard on all but the base S trim.
On the heels of a long overdue 2022 redesign, the midsize Frontier pickup rolls into 2023 with a handful of equipment and packaging changes. Among the updates, the Midnight Edition package is now available on the SV Crew Cab, the long-wheelbase SV Crew Cab now comes with the SV Convenience package, the Pro-X and Pro-4X get wireless Apple CarPlay, and the Pro Premium package now comes with red interior stitching instead of black.
Nissan's GT-R supercar carries over into 2023 with no changes. Available in Premium and NISMO trim, a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine powers all versions of the GT-R, with horsepower ranging from 565 (Premium) to 600 (NISMO). The GT-R NISMO also comes with upgraded suspension and brakes. Pricing for the 2023 GT-R Premium starts at $113,540. The GT-R NISMO, meanwhile, costs almost twice as much. The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) is $210,740. Prices do not include the $1,895 destination charge.
Like the GT-R, the diminutive Kicks carries into 2023 with no changes. Unlike the GT-R, fuel economy, convenience, and value are its calling cards. The 5-passenger crossover is one of the lowest-priced SUVs on the market, with a base MSRP of just $ 21,585, including the $1,295 destination fee. However, remember that this "SUV" does not offer AWD.
While launching the all-new Ariya, Nissan quietly updates its "other," more established EV, the Leaf. For 2023, Nissan streamlines the Leaf's trim lineup, now offering the EV in S and SV Plus grades. The automaker refreshes the Leaf's exterior with a new front- and rear-end design, new Nissan brand logos inside and out, and a new 17-inch alloy wheel design on the SV Plus. Additionally, the S trim gets new cloth seat upholstery.
Nissan's biggest and sportiest sedan, the Maxima carries over into 2023 with only a couple of minor changes. All trims inherit Nissan's new brand logo, and the top Platinum trim gets semi-aniline leather seats and illuminated kick plates. Other than that, Nissan's "4-Door Sports Car" is the same.
Like the Maxima, changes to the sporty Murano crossover SUV are very minor. The Murano gets the new Nissan brand logo inside and out, and two new exterior colors debut: Super Black and Deep Ocean Blue Pearl.
The Pathfinder 3-row midsize crossover SUV was all-new for the 2022 model year. For 2023, Nissan introduces a new Rock Creek trim level geared toward off-road enthusiasts. Standard 4WD, an off-road suspension, 18-inch beadlock style wheels with all-terrain tires, a tubular roof rack, and a heavy-duty tow hitch receiver and harness are among the mechanical upgrades. The Rock Creek also gets LED fog lights, a surround-view camera with off-road mode, captain's chairs for the second row, and orange interior stitching. Otherwise, the Pathfinder sees no changes for 2023.
Nissan's most popular model carries over essentially unchanged for 2023—two years after a complete redesign. Available in four trims—S, SV, SL, and Platinum—the Rogue is available in FWD or AWD. Buyers can now equip the Rogue SV with the Midnight Edition package, which adds blacked-out exterior and interior features. Also, Amazon Alexa now comes in the SL Premium package and on the Platinum.
Last redesigned for the 2020 model year and seeing few improvements since, the Sentra carries over for 2023 with no notable changes. Nissan’s compact sedan still offers accessible pricing, attractive styling, a roomy and comfortable interior, and a generous list of standard safety and driver-assistance tech, including Nissan Safety Shield 360. Pricing for the 2023 Nissan Sentra begins at $21,045, including the $1,095 destination charge.
Due to the unrelenting competition in the full-size truck market, the Nissan Titan likely isn't long for this world. Nevertheless, the automaker hasn't stopped updating its large pickup. For 2023, the Titan is available with the Midnight Edition package that features black exterior and interior trim as well as LED headlights. Also, the Pro-4X and Platinum Reserve trims add wireless Apple CarPlay.
The subcompact Nissan Versa sedan gets refreshed exterior styling for 2023. Enhancements include a new front fascia and an updated V-motion grille. The sporty Versa SR trim gets new 17-inch alloy wheels, and Gray Sky Pearl paint comes available on SV and SR trims. On the tech front, available new features include an 8-inch touchscreen, a wireless charging pad, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Also, the new S Plus package—available only on the base S trim—now comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Bookending Nissan's 2023 model lineup is the all-new Z, Nissan's legendary 2-door, 2-seat, rear-wheel-drive sports car. The 2023 Nissan Z comes in two trim levels—Sport and Performance—powered by a 400-hp, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine. Buyers can choose from a 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic transmission.
On the outside, the new Z retains its trademark long hood/short deck aesthetic but with a modern take. Inside, the driver-oriented cockpit is also familiar but has an updated look and feel. Drivers face a 12.3-inch information display, and there's an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen atop the center stack (a 9-inch touchscreen is available).
