Changes to the 2022 Mitsubishi Models

Jessica Shea Choksey | Dec 10, 2021

For 2022, Mitsubishi retains its concise model lineup of one sedan, one hatchback, and four crossovers. Though the lineup is mostly carryover, a few significant changes include a wholly redesigned Outlander and a noticeably facelifted Eclipse Cross. The other two Outlanders in the model line—PHEV and Sport—remain virtually unchanged for now. The same goes for the Mirage and Mirage G4 models.

Despite its limited portfolio of offerings, Mitsubishi seems to have something for everyone, ranging from a small car to a 7-passenger SUV. Here's a closer look at what's new, improved, or omitted from the 2022 Mitsubishi model lineup.

2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Changes

There was no 2021 Eclipse Cross, as Mitsubishi paused production for one year. Compared to the 2020 Eclipse Cross, the 2022 model enjoys styling enhancements for a sleeker and more sophisticated appearance. The facelift gives the front and rear fascias a cleaner look and eliminates the split rear window. Within, the Eclipse Cross gets an updated instrument panel and a new infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen display. Last year, Mitsubishi hinted at improvements in the driving dynamics department, which came true for 2022 with revised suspension tuning.

2022 Mitsubishi Mirage and Mirage G4 Changes

The subcompact Mirage hatchback and Mirage G4 sedan receive minor equipment and packaging changes for 2022. Mitsubishi reprises the Black Edition package with 15-inch wheels and black exterior trim. Inside, the Black Edition brings red seat accents, carbon fiber and piano black trim, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The SE and BE trim levels receive auto headlights and auto windshield wipers as optional features.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Changes

The Outlander is Mitsubishi's big news for the 2022 model year. The all-new 3-row crossover is completely redesigned, inside, outside, and under the hood. The exterior of the Outlander is bolder than the outgoing model, with a decidedly rugged and sculpted look. It rides on 18- or 20-inch wheels.

Power for the new Outlander comes from a new 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine making 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. This engine ties to a continuously variable transmission and, according to the EPA, yields up to 27 miles per gallon.

The more upscale interior now offers an impressive list of options, including a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 10.8-inch head-up display, 10-speaker Bose audio, and a panoramic sunroof. And on the safety tech side, the Outlander comes with standard automatic emergency brakingblind-spot warning, auto high-beam headlights, and trailer sway control.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Changes

For 2022, the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) is virtually unchanged. An all-new Outlander PHEV based on the redesigned 2022 Outlander debuts for the 2023 model year.

2022 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Changes

Like the Outlander PHEV, the Outlander Sport remains almost unchanged for 2022. Big brother Outlander's generational redesign is yet to come to this model. That will most likely occur in 2023. But for the 2022 model year, the changes are negligible. The base SE trim receives standard synthetic leather seating, while the range-topping Outlander Sport GT gets actual leather seats and a 4-way power-adjustable driver's seat.
