Volvo’s smallest electric crossover—the EX30—is getting the company’s rugged Cross Country treatment. The 2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country is the brand’s first electric vehicle (EV) to get the all-terrain trim, and it comes with standard all-wheel drive (AWD), a higher ride height, and all-terrain tires, making it a little more capable for when the pavement ends.

Volvo has used the Cross Country moniker on its station wagons and SUVs since the late 1990s. It’s essentially an off-road-oriented upgrade that adds more ground clearance, rugged body cladding, and, of course, AWD.
The new all-electric EX30 Cross Country follows the same formula and should go on sale in the United States later in 2025. It uses a 64-kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery and dual-motor configuration, providing AWD and 422 horsepower. Volvo says it will provide up to 265 miles of range. When hooked up to a DC fast charger, the automaker says it can charge from 10 to 80 percent in 26 minutes.
Compared to the standard EX30, which was delayed until recently, the Cross Country variant rides only 0.7 inches higher and has front and rear skid plates for added protection. It also has unique 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires stuffed in its flared fenders exclusive to the Cross Country version. The front of the SUV has a topographic pattern of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden. Overall, its look has just the right touch of ruggedness.

Inside, the EX30 Cross Country looks identical to its asphalt-only counterpart. A vertically oriented 12.3-inch infotainment display also contains the driver information gauges and runs Volvo’s Google-based interface. You can also use Apple CarPlay, and instead of speakers in the doors, there is a single soundbar spanning across the dashboard.
Volvo is also offering a discounted “Cross Country Experience” package on the new model, which includes all-terrain tires, mudflaps, and a roof basket at a lower cost than if you purchased them separately. The automaker says more accessories will become available throughout the EX30 Cross Country’s lifecycle.

Volvo is no stranger to rugged, all-terrain models, and with the EX30 Cross Country, the brand aims to incorporate its expertise with these “soft-roaders” into its electric lineup. With few other small, rugged electric crossovers available, expect the EX30 Cross Country to be significantly pricier than competitors like the Subaru Crosstrek and the Toyota RAV4, both of which offer outdoor-oriented versions similar to the Cross Country.
