The Jeep Compass is a small crossover SUV with solid off-road capability and standard all-wheel drive (AWD). It receives minor updates for the 2026 model year. The rugged Trailhawk trim level receives upgrades that enhance comfort, including a windshield wiper de-icer, remote start, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats. Jeep also revises the Compass SUV's trim lineup and the exterior paint color selection. Pricing starts at $30,990, including the $1,995 destination charge.
The Jeep brand is known for crafting vehicles that excel on fire roads. The Compass is the most affordable model in the automaker's lineup and offers SUV buyers a trail-friendly option with its sturdy Trailhawk trim. The Trailhawk adds features that make life easier in the wild, including all-terrain tires, an off-road suspension, skid plates, and tow hooks. When properly equipped, it can ford up to 19 inches of water and comes with a one-inch factory lift. Keep in mind, though, that this is the second most expensive trim in the SUV's lineup. Once you add the destination charge, Trailhawk pricing starts at $35,390.
If you are more interested in city driving than trail-busting, you will want to consider the other Compass trims. Four other trims join the Trailhawk in the lineup: Latitude, Latitude Altitude, Limited, and Limited Altitude.
The Latitude base model is equipped with 17-inch aluminum wheels and all-season tires, and the cabin features cloth-and-vinyl upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, air conditioning, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen. As you move up the trim range, the amenities become more appealing.
The 2026 Compass is available with exterior features such as larger wheels, a black roof, and a hands-free power liftgate. You can dress up the cabin with features such as synthetic leather upholstery, a power adjustable driver's seat, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Technology features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen and wireless smartphone charging are also available.
Jeep keeps things simple by equipping all 2026 Compass SUVs with the same engine. All trims feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Jeep claims these ratings are class leading. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels.
If you are more interested in city exploration than wilderness adventures, several small SUVs offer more comfort and refinement than the Compass. The Honda CR-V is a strong alternative, offering a smooth ride and a stylish cabin. The Mazda CX-50 is equally impressive, with premium accommodations and engaging handling. For serious off-roaders, Jeep's Wrangler is the best bet, but it is even less comfortable on paved roads than the Compass.
