Changes to 2021 Cadillac Sedan Lineup Bring Big Tech Upgrades

Christian Wardlaw | Sep 11, 2020

Just a year after they debuted to replace the outgoing ATS and CTS sedans, the small 2021 Cadillac CT4 and midsize 2021 Cadillac CT5 arrive in showrooms with significant technology improvements. Meanwhile, the large Cadillac CT6 has ceased production to make room in the lineup for electric vehicles such as the upcoming Cadillac Lyriq.

Safety now comes standard in the 2021 CT4, which gains forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and Cadillac’s vibrating Safety Alert Seat as standard equipment. Both the CT4 and CT5 also include a standard Buckle to Drive function, which owners can turn off if they prefer.

Infotainment upgrades include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as SiriusXM 360L satellite radio. The rotary knob on the center console, just one of the ways to interact with the system, gains a jog function that makes it more useful.

Performance-tuned CT4-V and CT5-V variants add higher-quality leather to the steering wheel rim and horn pad, and in the CT4-V the center console trim changes from aluminum to carbon fiber. Both feature a revised front brake caliper appearance.

With each car, Sport trim is now offered with Brembo V Performance front brakes and a choice between red or blue calipers. The CT5 Sport also comes with a new V Performance Package including a mechanical limited-slip differential, Magnetic Ride Control adaptive dampers, and a performance-tuned suspension.

New for 2021, a high-definition 12-inch digital instrumentation display debuts. Cadillac will also offer an enhanced Super Cruise Level 2 semi-autonomous driving assistance technology on both cars, and exclusively with Premium Luxury and V-Series trim. Super Cruise gains an automatic lane-change function and is now a subscription-based service. It becomes available in early 2021.

Perhaps to celebrate this leap forward in technological sophistication, new Diamond Sky special editions arrive at about the same time as Super Cruise. Offered only with Premium Luxury trim, they are painted a new Diamond Sky hue and feature a luxury grille design, special finishes for the aluminum wheels, revised taillights, and Brembo V performance front brakes with blue calipers. Inside, a Sky Cool Gray/Black interior with exclusive seat insert perforations and dashboard trim, alloy pedal covers, and a Diamond Sky accented key fob await.

New paint colors for 2021 include Infrared Metallic and, for V-Series models, Rift Metallic. The latter is described by Cadillac as an Alabaster White with a Griege (gray-beige) hue to it. These replace Red Obsession and Royal Spice.

In the summer of 2021, new high-performance 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing sport sedans go on sale. The company says they will be the “most track-capable Cadillacs ever.”
