Buick Teases New Wildcat EV Concept

As the company transitions towards an all-electric future, Buick unveiled its all-new Wildcat EV concept this week.

Mounted prominently on the front and rear body of the Wildcat, Buick’s new tri-shield logo symbolizes the design transformation new production models will wear beginning next year. The Wildcat was developed in an effort to convey Buick’s all-new design language and influence the automaker’s future production models.

“The Wildcat EV concept represents the real design future for the brand,” said Sharon Gauci, Executive Director for Global Buick and GMC Design. “Buick has always been forward-looking, and this expression is a glimpse of where we’re going, and the optimism we have for the limitless possibilities of an electric future.”

Bold in its expression, the Wildcat EV concept is distinguished by its forward-leaning front-end appearance that features a low-mounted, trapezoidal grille. The general design is futuristic, with sharp, high-mounted and horizontal check mark-shaped lighting that flanks the vehicle.

“From every angle, the vehicle looks like it’s ready to pounce,” said Bob Boniface, Director, Global Buick Design. “It’s the result of careful attention to the proportions and sculptural beauty derived from the intersection of forms, not lines.”

“The more you look at the Wildcat EV concept, the more the details reveal themselves,” said Boniface. “Its timeless proportions acknowledge the brand’s rich design legacy, while our latest technology moves you forward.”

As Buick embarks on its journey of full-electrification, the Wildcat EV concept is built to be a platform for futuristic features, including biometrics, artificial intelligence, and aromatherapy. Technology is at the forefront of the Wildcat, which is designed to detect an elevation in driver heart rate and adjust vehicle settings automatically to restore calm. For instance, activating Zen Mode will dim the cabin lights, initiate the massaging seats, and disperse calming aromatherapy scents.

Everything about the Wildcat concept is designed to convey what’s possible with electric vehicles—from innovative design features and advanced technology to the transformative experience provided by EVs.

“We are on the cusp of true change, and this concept is a tangible vision of it,” said Gauci. “It inaugurates the next chapter in Buick’s design heritage, as we make the crucial transition to our all-electric future.”
