2022 Kia Forte Changes Include Styling Refresh and New Tech

Chris Teague | Oct 11, 2021

Kia has announced updates to the 2022 Forte, the automaker’s compact car. Changes to the 2022 Kia Forte include new tech, improved safety features, and a ton of value packed under its revised styling.

The automaker shuffled the Forte lineup for the 2022 model year by removing the EX trim and adding a new Sport Premium package to the GT-Line trim. The result is four versions, including the FE, LXS, GT-Line, and GT. Additionally, new Technology packages are available for the LXS, GT-Line Technology, and GT, each one adding different advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) to the car.

Kia makes no changes to powertrains this year. According to the automaker, 2022 Kia Forte specs include a 147-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) in the FE, LXS, and GT-Line trim levels.

The 2022 Kia Forte GT continues with a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder rated to make 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. In addition, the GT offers a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT), and this version of the car has an exclusive multi-link independent rear suspension design and sport-tuned exhaust system.

As with other models in the company’s lineup, the GT-Line trim level amounts to an appearance package that does not functionally change the car’s power output or performance. The 2022 Kia Forte GT-Line trim brings 17-inch aluminum wheels, sporty exterior trim, LED fog lights, and exclusive interior styling touches that include sport seats and a sport steering wheel. This version of the car also has an upgraded blind-spot warning system that can actively try to prevent an unsafe lane change.

A new 10.25-inch touch-sensing widescreen infotainment system with navigation debuts for the GT-Line and the GT, and these versions of the Forte now offer remote engine starting. The FE and LXS continue with an 8-inch touchscreen system, now equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In addition, a rear USB charging port is newly available.

The Forte’s Kia Drive Wise safety equipment also gets an overhaul for the new model year. Six features come standard: Forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and a driver attention warning system. In addition, lane-centering assistance is newly standard for 2022, adding steering input to help center the car within the lane of travel.

New available features include cyclist detection and automatic rear braking as part of the available rear cross-traffic warning system. Highway Driving Assist is also new for 2022, an available feature pairing adaptive cruise control with the lane-centering assistance technology to offer Level 2 hands-on driving assistance. In addition, versions of the car with navigation now can slow the Forte down before the vehicle enters an upcoming curve or a lower-speed travel zone.

Kia’s Safe Exit Warning system is also now available for the Forte, which alerts the driver and passengers of approaching traffic or cyclists when exiting the vehicle. The system can even lock the door to prevent injury or damage to the car.
