Ram Trucks recently debuted the all-new Ram Multifunction Tailgate at the Chicago Auto Show.
The multifunctional tailgate has a 60/40 split design with a line through the tailgate that allows it to open. This line is constructed in a way that is not noticeable. It is much harder to this line until you are up close to the back of the vehicle.
By pushing a button in the tailgate handle housing, the Multifunction Tailgate will easily open into its barn door configuration. The button opens the driver-side section of the tailgate first, and the passenger section has a handle positioned within where the two meet to open the other section. This makes it possible to open the Multifunction Tailgate even with the trailer hooked.
The Ram Multifunction Tailgate is accessible across all trim levels in the US and Canada.
The Multifunction Tailgate is a straightforward but excellent design that gives the Ram 1500 even more usefulness. The Multifunction Tailgate is recommended especially if you are someone who often uses your truck box.
In the past, tailgates had to be folded to reach the vehicle bed. However, this design had several severe flaws.
First, because of its length, a traditional tailgate prevents complete access to the truck bed when it is dropped. Traditional Tailgates are about a foot long and lowered so it makes it difficult for you to reach into the truck bed and remove items. Your movement is stopped when the tailgate slams into you at around hip level. You'll need to climb in to retrieve anything from the further parts of the bed.
This problem is fixed with the new Multifunction Tailgate. It is divided into swing-out doors that hinge 60/40. The doors can be opened either separately or together up to 88 degrees. This enables you to transfer cargo while standing closer to the truck bed safely.
A traditional tailgate's low weight restriction is its second downside. You might need to rethink how you carry large sacks of cement, enormous blocks, or big machinery onto the back of your vehicle. The Multifunction Tailgate can support up to 2,000 pounds of weight. As a result, you can fill the trunk full of bigger, heavier items without fear of the tailgate breaking.
