As electric vehicles, you might assume that Teslas do not have many components that add weight, as compared to conventional cars. However, this conclusion is incorrect. Electric cars, including Teslas, weigh more than conventional cars because of the high-voltage batteries and electric motors that power them. On average, EV batteries weigh about 1,000 pounds, but most weigh over 2,000 pounds because a larger battery means more power for the car.

Due to this, below, you’ll find the list of various Tesla models ranked according to weight.
The Model X is one of the largest and heaviest vehicles in Tesla's lineup. There are two versions available: the Model X Long Range and the Model X Plaid.
The Model X Long Range weighs 5,185 pounds, while the Plaid version weighs 5,390 pounds. The Long Range features dual motors and all-wheel drive, while the Plaid has a tri-motor all-wheel drive setup, which explains the weight difference.
The Model X Long Range boasts a maximum power of 670 horsepower and can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, with a range of 348 miles. The Plaid trim has even more impressive specs, with 1,020 horsepower, a 333-mile range, and a 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds. The Model X was introduced in 2016 and received an update in 2021 to include the Plaid trim.
Introduced in 2012, the Tesla Model S is the second oldest among its Tesla siblings and also the second largest. It has two trims: the dual-motor Long Range and the tri-motor Plaid. The number of motors affects the weight of the vehicle.
The Long Range trim with its dual motors weighs in at 4,561 pounds, while the Plaid trim with its tri-motor setup tips the scale at 4,766 pounds.
The dual-motor Long Range produces 670 horsepower, accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds, and has a range of 405 miles. The tri-motor Plaid trades off its range for performance, producing 1,020 horsepower and reaching 60 mph in 1.99 seconds, but with a reduced range of 396 miles.
The Model S was updated in 2021 to include the tri-motor Plaid trim, and both trims offer all-wheel drive.
The Model Y weighs 4,416 pounds for both the Long Range and Performance trims.
This is because both trims have two motors each, so there is no additional motor to add weight to the Performance trim. Both trims also have all-wheel drive and fall in the middle compared to the weights of other Tesla models.
The Long Range trim has 346 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, with a range of 330 miles. The Performance trim has 450 horsepower, a range of 303 miles, and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The Model Y was introduced in 2019, but production began in 2020.
The Tesla Model 3 is available in three trims: Standard Range Plus, Long Range, and Performance. The Standard Range Plus model has a single motor and weighs 3,582 pounds.
The Long Range and Performance trims feature dual motors, resulting in a weight of 4,065 pounds each. The Standard Range Plus model is rear-wheel drive, has a range of 272 miles, and can reach 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds.
The Long Range trim features an all-wheel drive setup and a range of 358 miles. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The top-of-the-line Performance trim also has all-wheel drive and a range of 315 miles and can reach 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds. Although it is the second lightest of the three trims, it is also the most expensive. Tesla introduced the Model 3 in 2017 and refreshed it in 2021.
The Tesla Roadster is Tesla's original vehicle and weighs 2,723 pounds. It was first released in 2008. In 2017, Tesla announced plans to release a second-generation Roadster, which is expected to be available in 2023. Currently, there is no official information about the weight of the new Roadster. However, Tesla has claimed that the vehicle will be capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds. Additionally, Tesla has mentioned that an optional SpaceX package will be available for the new Roadster, which includes rocket thrusters and will further reduce the vehicle's 0-60 mph acceleration time to 1.1 seconds.
If we were to rank all the Tesla models according to weight, here’s what we’d see:
Tesla cars are known for their heavyweight due to their battery packs and electric motors. Model X is the largest and heaviest among the models, followed by the Model S, Model Y, and Model 3. Meanwhile, the Roadster remains the lightest and quickest model in the lineup.
